Outboard height

 Hi guys

Just wanted some confirmation on if my outboard is sitting at the right height before I sikaflex it up. I do have 1 hole worth of adjustment up if required and 2 holes down. Currently the cav plate is more or less flush with the bottom of the hull.

Thank you

from memory looking at your pic you will need to go a bit deeper. taking into mind when you get up on the plane looking at where it is now you wont have enough of the leg in the water to get the full use out of your power with the prop just below the surface

the hull will always sit down in the rear end , your cav plate by the old theory is dead inline with the bottom of the hull  , so when your up and running , on the plane that section of the hull would still be under water

The cav plate should be in clear veiw when on the plain so IMO. Raise it slightly 10 - 15 mm and should be good

When the hull is planing it's up out of the water when it's not on the plane it's still in the water . It's fine where it is...:)

The motor is too low. Water

The motor is too low. Water will Flow upwards in the gap between bottom of the transom and the start of the cav plate and will possibly flow over the cav plate, reducing economy and top speed.

I would try a hole higher before sikaflexing in place.

Is it on a pod?

Thu, 2017-07-06 11:48

If it is you will need to lift it about 15mm up for every extra foot that the donk is off the transom. Mines on a pod and it's 600 mm off the transom so a lift of 30 mm was needed .

Boat

Thu, 2017-07-06 11:50

What sort of boat is it? How big is it? Seems an unusual setup with what looks like raw ally, painted something and two different bungs.

The general rule of thumb is the cav plate can go up by 1 inch for every 12 inches the motor is from the transom. Keep in mind some of the boat will still be in the water unless we are talking Merc Racing 400R on a tinny.

I would test out all three

I would test out all three heights and find which is best.
Bit of a pain moving the engine up and down but at least you can get the best setting for that hull.

I would say it is right just

I would say it is right just where it is like others have said.

The point you have the timber is the very lowest point of the keel which is the same level as the cav plate.

From that point the "V" raises each side quite steeply so the cav plate will be well under the water line on the plane.

By the look of that hole in your cav plate, I am not sure if that is for mounting a hydrofoil or not but if it is I would try it without it on and see how she goes.

But my opinion is it will be fine how it is
