Outboard Option Advice

 All,

Just seeking some advice with regards to some Suzuki 4 stroke outboard options I'm currently looking at for a new bow rider. It's about 6.5m in length. I'm deciding on either 1.) 175hp 2.) 4 cylinder 200hp or 3.) a V6 200hp option. I'm leaning toward the 200hp option (whether that be 4 cyl or V6) for future proofing and resale value, but 175hp would probably be OK as well.

The difference in 175 and 200 hours (4 cyl) is about 3k, to the v6 is about 4k, so it's probably splitting hairs a bit. What's people's thoughts on going to 1.) the 200 hp over the 175hp and 2.) if going to the 200 hp option, would the 4cyl version suffice or is it better going for the V6 version?

thanks in advance

Not sure how heavy your boat

Not sure how heavy your boat is but those i4-200s are getting rave reviews in the USA. Less weight on the transom too can really benefit some hulls. If your hull is heavy you might need the extra torque of the v6 200 though.

Thanks for that. I assume the i4-200 is the 4 cylinder version? Boat without motor is about 900kg.

Suzuki

My boat (dual console) is 6.4m fibreglass and has a 150hp Suzuki. I think the bare hull weight is 1125kg. Gets up and goes well, ocean cruises easily at 20 knots and tops out at 30 knots (gps confirmed speeds).

Hull weight 1100kg. I put a 175 zuke on her and cant be happier with the choice. Awesome motor! swings a big prop tops out at 37 knots. Have you talked to Brett Ward about price?

I would tend away from the V6

I would tend away from the V6 due to the weight and it is old technology now (hasn't really changed for 10+ years). The new i4 has lean burn etc and much better on fuel.

I had the 225 V6, now have the 200hp i4 and love it.

I have a 200 V6 powering my Barcrusher 680 hard top which weighs a lot more than yours. Loads of grunt and hasn't missed a beat and can reach a top speed of nearly 40 knots. Very happy with it although it does burn fuel but in saying that I'm generally cruising at 25-30 knots.

Since your boat is lighter than mine then the 4 cylinder option might be the better option in terms of fuel economy with ample horse power still available.

Pretty much same as spinksy , 5.9m seafarer , 175 suzuki , 37 knots , great fuel economy , also from Brett Ward at suzuki marine in Bibra Lake.

Couldn't be happier.

Zook 200 V6

On my bayshore 6.8 and 38 knots top speed. 1 litre burned per km everyday of the week and just hit 1100hrs

perfect size for my boat but if i ever have to repower i will be going with the 250, not a fan of less displacement and more power in the 4cl 200hp. My opinion but.
