if you mean baitcasters

i have used my baitcaster for alot of those species but not bream,

i just bought a abu garcia ambassadeur black max. well priced with a reasonable drag. i've loaded it with 6lb td sensor and i've managed plenty of decent tailor on it.

i'd rather be fishing

If unlike me

you are proficient at baitcasting, then I would use that in preference to a spinning reel. I tend to over-run every 3 or 4 casts - also untangling mono/fluro is much easier than braid. One negative is casting really light lures can be rather difficult (read nigh on impossible). The advantage is the ease of subtly working plastics (IMO) in comparison to a spinning outfit.

As to what baitcaster? Depends on budget as always......like spinning reels, you can spend $100 - $1000. One I didn't care for was the Daiwa Viento (hate the "twitching bar") but I did like using my mates SOL and my own Shimano Chronarch (which was stolen and I'm yet to replace). The Shimano reels tend to be slightly heavier (as my mate always points out) but personally for me 50g here or there isn't that big a deal.

One that has caught my eye is the new Heartland b/c. Looks good value at a shade over $300. Until then I will continue using my Daiwa Luna 300 (which is too big for the job, but it will have to do....)

I have heard, but cannot confirm

Sun, 2009-02-01 14:12

that a lot of vientos have been returned because of problems associated with the twitching bar.

Personally, I found the twitching bar got in the way too much as I like to lay my thumb over the exact spot it sits......

Twitchin bar

Sun, 2009-02-22 12:45

I have the Daiwa megaforce with the twitchin bar and landed a sized tailor on just the twichin bar. My brother dared me a carton to do it so if it broke I could drown my sorrows. Have never had a problem with the twichin bar and it gets heaps of use catchin murry river bream on soft and stick baits
So many fishing spots. Not enough sickies!!!!!!!
