Painting Jigs

 Hi Guys,

ive got a number of jigs (100g-200g) where the paint on the jigs is flaking off.

has anyone re-coated their jigs, and if so, what paint do use and where do you get it from?

Thanks

Try this

It's called hydro dipping. Oil based spray paint floating on top of a bucket of water. Plenty of YouTube vids on how to do it at home.

Worth checking out as well. A printed sleeve you can put over chewed up jigs and lures, pour hot water over it and it shrink wraps your jig/lure.

I'm a sucker for shiny

I'm a sucker for shiny looking jigs, attracted to them like a kid in a candy store, spend way too long analysing colour, glow etc. and I'm sure I will revert to this thread to research how to paint mine one day soon, but... do you believe a few chips, or colour in general makes a difference?

At a jigging masterclass a few years back, a dude from Deepliner in Japan suggested he doesn't use glow because when the fish look up he believes the glow makes the jigs invisible due to the suns reflection... makes me think this is all just marketing.

Good point

In total, I've caught not a lot on jigs and tend to use plastics more.

I do have quite a few jigs that need re"blinging to look pretty......plus it's something I think one of kids will like. Perhaps new assists with new skirts is easier.

It's expensive to repaint

It's expensive to repaint your jigs bsir, especially if you only have a couple to do and you use cans, paint & 2 pac etc. I have a few of my goto jigs that I touch up with the mrs nail polish as it dries quite hard and she has a great selection lol.

If you do a search in the forum there are many opinions on jigs, especially weight/size and colour.

I started making my own lures a couple of years ago and have toyed with the idea of stripping a few no name brand jigs back and starting again as I have my favourite colours that provide plenty of contrast, just need the time lol.
