Parking boat on a sloping drive
Submitted by joycey on Fri, 2011-09-16 17:39
Hi guys,
After some advice.
Looking at buying a house with a sloping concrete driveway with an incline of about 30 degrees.
Would want to park boat on this driveway ( fibreglass cabin boat between 5 - 5.5m on trailer).
Does anyone have any experience/advice regarding this ?
Will it be safe, would I need some sort of blocks under the wheels, or is it not advisable.
Thanks for any advice
Joycey.

mate, my boat is on a sloping drive and it is a pain in the but.
of course you should chock the wheels, but other things are, when its raining the boat fills with water,(unless its sloping the other way) so i jack mine up with all sorts of goodies to make sure the water runs out. (takes about 5 min)
this is were i wash the boat too, so i like it to self drain and everthing dry before the cover goes back on.
on the plus side if someone wants to nic it, they will have to have a masters degree in enginering to get it back to tow bar height.
dont rely on your std rubber jockey wheel when you have alot of weight on it, it will split after a while. make some sort of stand up and take the weight off the wheel.
but all in all i would love to have a level drive way!!!
cheers

yuo
I have a sloping driveway, puts lots of pressure on the leafs putting it up on the angle and can hear the trailer croak and groan each time, not the best situation but gotta do what you gotta do.

mate dont worry about the incline , but a reversing camera on the car would make hitching up very easy ,single handed

Thanks for advice so far,At
Thanks for advice so far,
At the bottom of the drive/garden, there is a grassed verge where the boat could go.
However as far as I am aware the council don't like you parking boats on the verge.
Do you think I could park it there without any problems from the council ?

ring them
ring the council and speak to the ranger to find out their policy. Lots of councils won't allow it.

Chocks
I have the same issue, I just bought a house with sloping drive. need some chock that lock together so if kids jump on the boat they dont go flying across the road. Martins trailer parts maybe or any other place got such a thing any one know?
