penguin huntress upgrades

so the floor in my penguin was buggered so i decided to rip it up and do a few upgrades! i didnt take a before photo as such but heres the closest ive got! i got a little too excited when i started and forgot the picture!

when i ripped the floor up i found this! and i was instantly excited all the possibilities! fuel tanks under the floor even the batteries removed of the rear deck!

i remooved the croos beams and coated them in varnish.

then off to see seakem to get the fuel tanks made! here is a pic of the tank build.

tanks installed

floor and seats installed

Good to see the close to finished project Jeff. The old girl won't know herself. Plenty of good deck space there now. Look forward to seeing the finished job.

Mon, 2013-01-14 15:09

Top Job Snappermiles , always good to see someone doing their own work .

How do you plan to fill the tanks mate . I have been looking at doing something similar for a (long) while now but just keep puting it off . seeing your work makes me think its time to pull my finger out .

there is a hatch in the centre

Mon, 2013-01-14 15:27

which you lift and fill from there! i was going to put hoses out to the side of the hull but it was just to much hassle! it was alot of work but i actually enjoyed it!

Hose

Mon, 2013-01-14 15:36

I have seen one local bloke who keeps a length  of 50mm  hose in the boat and just sticks one end in the tank and one end at the gunnels . I asked him why he was doing it that way and he said that some of the petrol stations wouldnt let him fill up from inside the boat due to regulations .

thats bull crap

Mon, 2013-01-14 15:50

that rule is only if the tank is remoovable! any fixed tank is fine! but thats not a bad idea for certain stations that have short hoses

Sounds about right. I can get 49 out of my 17r with a light load but drops down to 44 when fully loaded, 3 blokes, esky, riggers up and a full rocket launcher.

Wouldn't be to many days off Perth where you do 30 or 40 knots on a regular basis. Mods look good.

 Looks fantastic the finish

Wed, 2013-01-16 14:08

Looks fantastic the finish you achieved. This is exactly what I want to do with my boat but haven't built up the courage to rip the floor up just yet. I need to do some more research on the glassing  and gel coat process first I think.

Nice job

Wed, 2013-01-16 14:17

Nice job mate, looks great . Even tho there is alot of work in a restoration like that ,it  must be satisfying to do most of the work yourself ,and to get the tanks under the deck was a bonus for sure.
