Photography Outing - REVIEW - Wednesday 17/6
Submitted by kaney68 on Thu, 2009-06-18 00:59
Big thanks to the members (and friends) that came along tonight.
In the end we had Marc Russo, GusG, PeteD and courtesy of danobigfish - Tanya, Bob and Manula.
We probably spent more time talking about photography and gear rather than shooting, but it was a perfect night for it and great to see people enjoying themselves and discovering features of their cameras and hopefully a few "tricks" along the way.
Being in a group at night obviously has it's benefits, when it comes to safety.
Anyway, I'll kick this post off with a couple of images from the night..
Nothing too special, yep it's all been done before, but will be good to see how people interpret the same subject..
cheers,
Paul

Excellent Night
Many thanks again Paul - a great night indeed.
Having never used my camera at night before, it was a great experience to learn so much so quickly from a pro.
Those wide angle lens make a huge difference - come on tax return!
Cheers Pete
My efforts;
DOLPHIN BOW WAVE
This was just lucky timing. This dolphin certainly woke us all up when it busted up some fish in the shallows.
Lesson learnt - clean ya lens of dust.

Nice work guys.
In regards to the boat shed I used to take my daughters down there prior to its refurbishment. We used to sneak inside and constantly get bricked by big bream. Kids had a ball.

Good one Colin when I first so
that lovely photo also first thing that popped into my head, wonder if there is any flathead there, as Bob loves going and getting flathead in Leeman, while I sit in the car and listen to him curse and swear about the one he missed

Thanks
Thanks for the reply and C&C most appreciated. I notice a few members here that are also members of The Australian Photography Forum such as Marc Russo and Percula so I kind of feel at home. Here's two more photos I did today as a bit of a project inside for myself as it's been raining quite a bit.

Thanks for putting those up Bob
Just a quick one tho...
When it comes to horizons and editing....
Aim to get the horizon level or make sure it is exagerated (if that's the effect you're after).
It just creates a more "polished" image.
You can't really trust vertical lines unless they are in the center of the image, where there is less lens distortion).
cheers,
Paul

Re Editing
I didn't edit these, they were put up just as they were emailed to me but I'm sure that both manuella and Tanya will take note of your advice for future shots. Thanks. I also feel this may have occurred because the tripods weren't set up properly and were probably on a slight angle.

Some from the weekend
I took this photo in big seas and a huge wind. Made it hard to keep the camera steady on the tripod and due to the long exposure there is a bit of noise in the pic but all in all it came out ok. It was at sunset.

Couldn't help it when I saw that bird that for all intents looks like it's hanging by it's tail even though I know you caught in action. :)
