Anybody ever fished there, is it worth a charter as several boats can be chartered for the day for only around $500 so if a few of you go it works out real cheap.

I have done bit over there.
I have done bit over there. Its worth looking around for the best blokes catching at the time. If you can take your own gear as they fish really heavy and its not much chop. I caught heaps of tunns, trevally (alot like our goldspot)and even seen a few sailies around. I jigged most of the time over there with some popper and spinning metal work as well. Not a bad trip out. If your booking some other things to do over there while you rae there book them all at once and youll get a good deal on the charter.
well worth the trip for something different and there are plenty of fish there if you have the right skipper. One i went on i ended up getting it half price because theres not much releasing of fish over there and they will actually sell your catch to the markets if you dont want them, i catch that many they gave me some of the money for them........no bad hey!
Good luck spess.

Phuket - Fishing?????
I did a bit of shore fishing in Phuket and only ended up catching a giant blowie. Also got out on a long boat for half a day on Phi Phi Island. Mostly high speed trolling. Cost about ~$50, and caught heaps of pretty big fish, and lost heaps too, due to the rusted hooks and dodgy lures... i also agree with Spess, bring your own gear, as the gear they use is usually rated for sail-fish / marlin. I'd also bring a couple of your own big game lures.
