Pinger

Went out for a fish at the Lady Joyce wreck today.Fished at the wreck for a couple of hours with very little return for effort, 2 reasonable silver bream 2 good and 3 just average yellow fin bream and a just size spanish flag with the usual 2 million undersize fish sent back.

We moved to a spot about 1.5 nm east and dropped the anchor and started fishing. We heard another boat logging on to sea rescue and his destination was the Joyce so peace and quiet for us. Bugger me dead  if this prick spotted us and came straight over asking how we were going. My reply was that we were doing well untill some wanker drove over and pinged our spot and told him this wasn't the Lady Joyce, to which he replied "I know".

Thats allright for him but  his boats name is MUDDY WATERS, I hope everyone watches out for the pinging prick.

Sorry no pics as forgot the camera and the fish were not speccy enough to take a shot of.

That sort of thing of a piss off thats for sure......

It's big ocean with plenty of room for everone to spread out. We were anchored up 2 weeks ago and had been laying out a burley trail for over 3 hours when another boat came and anchored 50m away right in the middle of our trail........luckily we had our catch for the day so we took the rest of our burley and split...

Pingers

Fri, 2010-07-16 16:18

As Rick said, there is plenty of ocean out there.

One of the reasons I go out fishing is because you can escape everything, no mobile phone coverage, no nagging misses, no work stresses. To be quite honest I don't want to speak to anybody out there, but I'm more than happy to talk about fishing over a few beers at the fishing club or pub with anybody.

I think it's just good fishing etiquette to keep your distance and if somebody is on a mark that you have as well, keep going to another one.

No doubt people have different views on this matter, but realistically if I pulled up next to another boat and asked them how they had been doing, If they had been killing the pig surely they wouldn't tell me, so why would you do it then?? You're not going to get a truthful answer.

yeah going against the grain

Fri, 2010-07-16 18:07

yeah going against the grain here but its a bit hard to say your the only one who knows that spot. i agree if someone is on one of your marks then good etiquette  would say go to another especially if they're anchored but if your just drifting a patch i think its all fair. to jump the gun and stick it to someone for asking how your going is a bit much imo. it wasnt that far from the wreck so theres a good chance they could have had that spot also. secret spots are a bit of a rarity these days and to publicly name and shame someone is a bit over the top. not trying to provoke just sharing my opinion on the matter.

Close

I wouldn't say 1.5nm is close to the wreck. There are numerous tyre reefs within 300metres of it sure but to drive straight over as soon as they spotted us and not continue on to the wreck where another boat was in the process of anchoring. He probably though that he had missed out on the wreck site so I'll just go see what a local is fishing on.

Have seen the boat before and its not a local boat.

Admittedly one doesn't own the ocean but they don't have to be so blatant in taking advantage of others time and effort in finding other spots.

Not uncommon these days!

But dont worry if ppl stick to new limits..

And STOP FISHING..(for endangered species)... When you bag out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No matter who catches what! sized, eskied..

Undersized then release and say a prayer!

Get your boats bag and then try for pelagics or look for new lumps..

Release weight or not fish dont like being ripped up from depths and survival is  speculative!

If ppl did this...

There would be plenty for every one!(in a few years)...

(my bitch for the month!)...Just my uneducated opinionWink

fact of life

Fri, 2010-07-16 23:26

it happens get over it really. people are gonna ping - you posting it here won't stop it. The ocean isn't getting any bigger but the number of people fishing it is, pinging is or what you percieve as pinging will happen regardless.

On my mates boat he can ping you on radar and you wouldn't even know. I think its time people got past the fact that other will "ping" your spots - be they your spots or anothers spots.

I have spots that people fish - if I drive up and find them there do they think I am a "pinger" - probably, but not the case. How sure are you that they are indeed the pingers you accuse them of being?
