Plenty of Herring and Salmon - metro

i have been lucky enough to get out on the water over the past two days . Yesterday was a bait catching mission with a picnic lunch on Garden Island and today was an early snapper bash, followed by some Salmon fun off Freo.

Friday started with the wife and 15 month old trying for some squid over near D9. Managed to get a tentacle due to not paying attention, though there were good signs. Headed out from Woodies Point to have another go there without luck. Next stop was to the back of Garden Island for a picnic lunch. When motoring into a bay half way down the back, I noticed plenty of herring. I threw on a small twisty on my $15, 3 foot Ben 10 combo and was bringing in fat herring every second cast. These fish were 6-8 wide chasing the lure and were very easy to catch. Needless to say, I had my bag in around 10 minutes.

Had hamburgers on the island for lunch before heading back via Sulpher Rock for another squid drift without Luck.

Once home, it was time to clean out and gear up the boat for an early start today. In the water at 0530 and out the back of GI before 6 and into the waypoint. Drifted around for a good three hours with two types of plastic, whole and filleted herring without luck. One decent bite took the tail off my herring though that was it. Plastics were nibbled but that was it.

Headed back to the bay were in on Friday for some more fresh herring and a BBQ brekkie on the boat, and again it was on, this time with a few skippy going into the bucket. This is again on small twisty's, in around 1.5m of water.

after getting our bag again, we headed north to where we had previously got some Salmon. We found some birds playing with some baitfish but couldn't get anything bigger interested so we trawled around, towing Smiling Jacks. Bang followed by Snap was how the first hookup went with the braid busting at the reel. The salmon were there. Re-rigged and within minutes we were on. A very healthy fish came up after around 30 minutes (drag was set low and I didn't want to mess with it. What followed over the next 30 minutes was another four decent hookups followed by busted lines so after 6 hours on the boat we headed in. The salmon was released to fight another day after providing great to entertainment.

Love stories like this, nothing wrong with a bread and butter session.

You are living my dream mate. Got a 3m dinghy last year which is great for me and the 5y old and just paid off the car and now saving $1000/fortnight plus my overtime for a boat big enough to fit the Mrs, my 2year old and my 6 month old too. $3200 down so far and getting very impatient haha
