Posting rods interstate

Hey everyone, just wondering if anyone has had any experience with shipping rods interstate i.e. which companies have been used and approximate costs. Any info would be appreciated!

Aust Post

While not having sent them but have received a heap I have found Australia Post are about the quickest and probably the cheapest. The longest one I have had sent was 8 foot in a cardboard tube and have had lots go around 6 foot without a worry

Can anyone confirm this Aus Post 105cm limit thing?

I have had a look on their website and it wont let you get a price on a package longer than 105cm, but im sure I have sent with them before.

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Just spoke with Aus Post,

Just spoke with Aus Post, apparently 105cm max unless you have an account with them.

Cheers Jay - will give Smart Send a go, they seem the cheapest of the ones listed above. 7-8 business days from NSW to Perth though which sounds a bit excessive, but as long as the new Ripple Fisher rocks up in time for Exxy in Aprill I'll be happy!

Rod postage

Thu, 2011-03-03 11:35

I used to use smart send but then quite a few of the rods i sent got "lost". Then started using pack n send and never had any Problems, and they are usually overnight deliverys as they are air mail instead of road like smartsend. Also usually found pack and send were cheaper.

"lost"?! That doesnt sound

Thu, 2011-03-03 12:08

"lost"?! That doesnt sound good at all.

I have booked it now, with the insurance option, so it better show up!

As a comparison, it was around $35 incl insurance with smart send, or $80 with insurance with pack and send ($40ish without)

Where did you get the Ripple

Thu, 2011-03-03 13:21

Where did you get the Ripple Fisher from? It's usually the sellers responsibility to arrange postage.
