Q regarding trout lures
Submitted by jimbo1 on Tue, 2007-11-06 10:17
G'day I am going to waroona next week for a couple of days camping and was going to try my luck trout fishing.
I have my license and dug out a heap of spinners from when I last went a few years back. My Q is what is the best way to clean up my old lures as the brass on the old spinners has lost its shine and the trebles have small deposits of surface rusting. Without spending a fortune and having to go buy another dozen lures does anyone have a easy solution to cleaning them up. Or is it really not worth bothering, will it make that much of a difference to my potntial catch. Not very experienced at trout fishing!
Cheers

Mate to be honest id remove
Mate to be honest id remove the trebbles paint them in gold paint and paint the spinner tag in red! Then add new trebbles. Every hit and every fish i caught down there including redfin perch wont take nothing unless it has red or orange on it. Even the laser pro's got some interest but only the gold and red colour (crawfish).
Saying this though mate i think chambells or bluewater have trout spinners out at the moment for something like 6 for $3 so mate the paint would be worth more :) Appart from getting snagged down there which doesnt happen too often you will only need an hand ful to get you buy. Cheers Mate i hope that helps.

Cheers spess
Cheers spess, I sat down and used brasso and tooth brush and cleaned the spinner bodies up shiny. I also used some CLR and cleaned up the trebbles. So the old lures now have a new lease on life. I do know one or two of the ones I have worked a treat possibly the red and the fluro yellow spinner. As although I have only been a few times the lures I have used always worked and I never came home empty handed. Mind you Im not getting my hopes up this time to save the embarrisement of a 0% catch rate.
