Question about 2c survey for a boat

Looking to see if someone can answer a question i have in regards to getting a used boat to pass a 2c survey.

I was talking to a mate and he is looking at options for a charter boat / sport fishing business in NSW, I guess WA maybe different though.

We were talking about boat types, licences, passenger numbers etc.

I suggested a really nice boat was the 780HT Barcrusher, now i believe you can get these made to survey from new, but

Can a second hand BC 780HT, be inspected and passed to the 2c requirements ?

I believe the 2C is :-
2 - passenger vessel
C -up to 30nm off the coast

If anyone could answer this it would be greatly appreciated and feel free to ask for anymore info i may have left out.

Cheers
Scotty

I guess being built to survey

I guess being built to survey is a higher standard than recreational use with certain criteria that has to be met.

I read an article on bc's that were custom made to survey for Dhipirri in the NT. ( Quoting memory at the moment )

I may need to send an email to bc in vic for clarification as well

https://www.amsa.gov.au/domestic/standards/national-standards/ click on the 2C survey, gives you a list to start with.. AMSA website.

so many different rules and regs, a bit daunting until you get your head around it. Also what Bryce Day mentioned has to be done also..

 The requirement in all

The requirement in all states "should" be the same now with NCSV.

But to get an existing boat into survey, would at the least require the deck lifting and inspecting, a stability report produced with inclination test, a toilet to a given standard which may be quite different to a bloky toilet.

Bouyancy and raft may be needed and lifejackets stored in an accessible area, easier said than done on smaller boats.

Acceptable sealed compartments and pumping arrangements.

The actual safety gear itself is the easy bit.

Surveying is going to get a lot harder soon with a pending court case over the "Returner" incident.

 Should..... a wonderfull

 Should..... a wonderfull word :)

And as you noted, a lot of states add their own extra reqirements on top of national standards.

To get a "non survey" vessel up to survey standards would not be economical. Their build is of much higher standard, and generaly require thicker hull plating, closer spacing of ribs and stringers....... and a whole raft of tests and features to pass survey requiremets.

Recreatonal vessels are generaly not built to these standards to keep costs and weight down.

Also concider an older survey vessel will have to have routine inspections to maintain its survey status after it reaches about 10 years of age i believe. If you buy second hand have it inspected before purchase or you may be getting a dud that wont pass inspection.

Surveys

Thu, 2016-08-04 19:45

those days have come to an end Bryce

Even before this looming court case those surveyors are being pulled up, and now that AMSA are running the show...

It has changed alot over the years already, and this is going to be a huge wake up call for everyone I think.

probably not a change, but do what they it the way it should be.
Not as you described!

I was looking at starting the Marine Surveyors course only a couple of months back but there are changes in the wind probably also in terms of liability for the surveyors.
