Quobba

Hi guys

me and a couple of mates are going to Quobba at the end of September this year for a week and I was wondering if anyone could help me out with info on what good ballooning rod/reels i should get and where i can get it from. I'm interested in buying off someone here too if anyone has a ballooning combo they dont want anymore.

Cheers,

Ash

Reels

As far as reels go I take a Tynos 30 loaded with 60lb braid (50lb mono backing) and 50 mtrs of 100lb leader. have TLD25 as backup. Take plenty of line with you as you may need it if the sharks are around. Nearly got spooled last time but managed to get back the $300+ line that was taken after 2 hours fighting a 12 ft Bronzie.

As far as rods go I normally use my boat rods ie Shimano Tcurve - but finding that sometime it is not long enough when fighting a fishing close to the rocks. Need something around 8-10ft.

So I will interested to see what others recommend for rods.

The southerlies usually start up this way around mid August and that closes out a lot of the better ballooning spots so think about taking some spinning and bottom gear as well.

High rock

If the wind is in about the only spots where you can get a balloon out are High Rock [extremely dangerous in big swell as the marker states] and Red Bluff
