RAC or Club Marine

Hi Guyss...

Just about to renew the insurance. Any experience claiming with RAC Boat?  RAC are cheaper about $200 for my boat but don't know whether the cover would be the same as club marine.

Please PM me if you don't want to reply it on the forum

Cheers

Just changed to RAC as the Premium was half the cost of SGIO, and with a zero excess and also with a RAC member card for discounts.

Too enticing not too go with.

Haven't had to claim yet though.

I'm with Rac also... club marine was $62 a month with $500 excess, rac is $34 a month with no excess. I haven't had to make a marine claim yet but going by previous claims I've had to make they get my vote.

Hi Guysss

Thanks for all the comments.

I am still waiting for my tub ( she is an old lady  about 20yrs fiberglass)  condition of report , finger cross nothing wrong and I will get the RAC.

I am bit surprise when the club marine mentioned $580ish and RAC just $378ish

I have been with club marine and never make any claim since in the begining, oh well I thinks its a time to move on.

Cheers

Had a look at RAC a while ago and

I got a bit of a shock when I saw that there was a restriction of only being allowed to travel up 20 ks offshore which was of no good to me, also API have the same restriction, I have 6m quinine and have regularly travelled in excess of the 20ks from the coast. To those that go deep dropping and are with RAC it might pay you to have a good read of your policy.

Had Nautilus for a few years

Sun, 2016-08-28 21:33

Had Nautilus for a few years and they were really good, very helpful here in the freo office.
THEN, they changed underwriters and I had a confusing conversation with a woman from the Melbourne, quite aggressive on "changes" to the policy which she wasnt able to show in the PDS.

End of my association with them, and on to RAC.

With any insurance though, it doesnt hurt to get quotes elsewhere every couple of years as they soon take you for granted.

Thu, 2016-08-25 12:32

Like Chris Raff, I would recomend SGIO, have had to make a couple of claims over the years and they have always been easy to deal with.

However, having said that, have been trying to get a quote for home and contents emailed for my youngest who has just purchased his first house.

Sadly it seems SGIO have now gone to an offshore call centre, 4 phone calls over 3 days to finally get a quote emailed.

And to top things off, yesterday in the mail we received an invoice for a home and contents policy in my name but for his new adress, payment due by 8th Sept (all we wanted was a quote as settlement isn't until the 21st)...............I hope this is not a sign of things to come with SGIO !

i was with Club marine would not touch them with a 10 foot pole.when i made a claim they knocked it back they where so difficult to deal with even as far as im concerned intimidating repairers.

i could not get the repairer to contradict the assesors report even tho he had stated to me my boat damage appeared as the result of striking something in the water, because as he stated "i have a small business and cannot afford to upset them.

i ended up having to pay for repairs myself

Nautilus

Thu, 2016-09-01 14:07

We are currently using Nautilus.

Had to make a claim from storm damage incurred by a neighbouring boat in the marina.  In the end the other owner's insurance (Club Marine) took the claim, but Nautilus were not a problem for as far as I progressed it.
