For malaysia it's best you go on a proper charter, one at Tukun Perak, Pulau Sembilan or east cost where the sailfish charters are - sometimes GTs appear hunting anchovy schools.

As for the villages, i'll say forget it. Your chances are higher with charter operators.

 Had tried it a few times. DIY style.  Last trip to the cocos island we headed out on a glass bottom tour but with intentions to fish. The operater really wasnt a fisherman but took us where ever we asked him to go. We did hook many fish deep jigging a steep drop off but got sharked every time. Did see a doggie down deep which we had hooked only to see a dozen grey reef sharks maul it to pieces. I heard indo holds great doggies down through the thousand islands group. Check out Alor island.

Anyways im yet to see one of those toothy bastards and really doublt ill ever have 5k plus to splash on a guided trip. Headed back to cocos in feb. Will try again

 Cheers for your reply fellas i looked at alor island fishing charters already  but they are asking $5500 for 4 days fishing because im on my own hence why I am looking at fishing in village boats If I didnt have enchanter booked for late feb I would have no probs spending that money.like I said I have done it in fiji of kandavu and we caught some really good fish but I just wanna check out somewhere new and maybe closer than fiji but fiji might have to do. If I find them doggies on a budget southcity ill be sure to count you in on the next trip
