Hi all, I'll be coming over soon from UK and will be getting myself some new tackle for beach/rock fishing however i do have a nearly new Shimano 8000D baitrunner which im thinking of bringing, do you think this is usable as a shark/ray reel or would it be better using it as a general reel i also have a couple off 4500B's if these would be more suitable. Cheers i advance

Mate I've got a 12000D I use from the beach and it's a great reel. The baitrunner feature is good for set and forget in a rod holder without having to worry about the possibility of seeing your gear get dragged into the surf. I haven't got any sharks with it yet, but pulled in a few big rays and it handled them no probs. You could use the 8000 for anything from surf/rock/jetty to bottom bouncing/jigging/sp's. Versatile reel.

Depends on line strength and
Depends on line strength and diameter. If you have more than about 250m of 50lb braid or so you should be fine off the beach, rocks, jetty, etc unless you hook a biggun! Just do me a favour and don't try to land a 4m Lb shark on that 8000![](http://fishwrecked.com/sites/all/libraries/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/msn/thumbs_up.gif)

Chance would be a fine thing
Chance would be a fine thing Hutch :). Ive got about 230mtrs of 65lb tuf line XP braid on it which i use fot Wels catfish ive had them on it upto 65LB so sharks upto about 2mtrs would be very nice. It is a nice reel to use but its surplus to requirements as ive upgraded to 6500b for my forthcoming Cat trip to france with a chance of cats to 150lb, so was thinking of using in Oz instead of selling it, got to get a decent surf/rock rod and something beefier for the sharks so ill be calling into Oceanside when im over.
