my advice would be to not try
my advice would be to not try and flick lures with ur 12' keep the spheros on this rod and get a smaller outfit for this purpose something around 9' and 5000 size shimano can be had for under or around budget.

I have the same rod... I use
I have the same rod... I use mine with a 12000d baitrunner for soaking big baits of the beach. The only reason i would ever use it for chucking lures would be up north at quobba etc chucking big heavy lures( would have to look at a lighter reel for this stradic 8000 probably) at fish bigger then tailor or salmon. I have a 9' foot president also with a 5000 stradic with 20lb fins braid for tailor/salmon nice combo can cast a mile with it with a 1 oz richter plug

lemax
I have a 12ft lemax which I use for soaking baits for tailor, salmon or mulloway when I don't need the extra rod length with big swells or reef.fantastic rod for the money and amazing action. I would typically use a daiwa windcast z 5500, emblem pro or a Penn conquer 7000 with mine. The two daiwas cast better but the penn 's feel a whole lot more bulletproof.that said I've recently been playing with a shimano ultegra 10000 with long cast spool whilst back visiting folks in the UK, absolutely fantastic reel though I'm not sure on Australian availability.
