The fisheries said no matter what condition it must go back into the Eco system if it floats the birds will eat it if it sinks fish and other things will eat it I said what if your beach fishing and catch under size fish at a swimming beach and have to throw the injured or dead fish back and it attracts sharks and some gets attacked there was no answer for that.
Why would chucking a dead or dying fish back at the beach bring in a shark to attack. You are Allready chucking out dead fish in the form of bait and I'm sure fish are dead and dying from natural causes so do you realy think one dead fish u just chucked back in the water will bring a shark in to attack sombody seriously how stupid are you.
firstly dont scull drag the fish up like so many ppl seem to do. the old didnt want to lose the fish is no excuse! ive brought them up from 50m slowly and watching the water for bubbles and pausing as you get closer to the surface. none were affected by biotrauma. all were released with no problem at all. Seems to be the main reason for popped fish especially dhuis. As fishermen we are responsible for looking after the welfare of the fish regardless if its a keeper or not and that starts from fighting the fish in a slow and controlled retrieve.
Agree with the slow retreive...... but can't do that in the Pilbara. Always 2 dozen farking sharks chasing my coral trout. grrrrrrr. How about a shark cull ??
Tried being sporty when we first went up. &*%&that!
Soon realised sporty was fishing in <12m. Deeper than that skull drag, and if it is undersize deal with that later. Poor fish has a better chance with barotrauma than being brought up slow and eaten instantly. Fished originally with a 4000style reel, upgraded to a 10000 and a Stella to boot to beat the sharks.

There is some good 12m fun not far from you crasny. Probably not the same as the Pilbara but still some quality.
