Rod damage/fault advice
Submitted by Goodz on Sun, 2013-09-22 16:28
Last trip out I noticed my much beloved Xzoga rod had a bit of an issue between the 2nd and 3rd eyes. Seems that the other layer has split. Is this going to turn into a bigger issue in the future or cause any major weak spot that may break under load or is it really only cosmetic? I do like to fish this rod pretty hard and have always considered it unbreakable. It's 3 years old now but apart from that it's still it top condition.

Best thing to do would be
Best thing to do would be bind over the faulty area to stop it splitting anymore and then epoxy over the bind to seal it.

Get some advice
I am not familiar with the construction of Xzoga's, but I would suggest taking it in to a reputable tackle store like Oceanside or Bluewater - somewhere that has people that build rods onsite (ie. not BCF) - and get some advice. I would be wary about binding over without advice, because if it is a significant fault, to put sufficient binding/epoxy on there to strengthen it adequately would probably affect the action of the blank at that point.

Yeah was thinking of taking it to Oceanside when I get a chance as that's where I got it from but thought I would ask here first. Cheers guys.
