Huge wraps of the KGS 68, i have one matched with a Hyper Certate 4000. Its my fave combo and has slain everything from big tuna busting up on the surface, to rampaging Cobia, to a 6ft+ whaler shark landbased.
I have it rigged with a small stickbait all the time when out in the boat ready to fling out.
I love my Yamaga Blue Sniper 77/3 for PE3 casting with a 5000 Stella. Bit long for an ideal plastics rod, but I do use it for that also.
Has stopped plenty of Sailfish, cobia, demersals, small GTs and all the rest.
Use to have the 65/3 which was also great, but a bit short for the casting. Might be a better option for an all rounder, though they also do a 70/3 I think.
Was guna suggest the catalina game 68s, Beau swears by his, and uses it for demersal jigging and placcys as well as a caster, MO have them for $249. If you want cheaper, BW are having a sale this weekend, they already have the tournament master s rods (@Morley) for $99, theres a 4-8 which I had for the same use as you suggest and theres a 6-10kg, both 7ft, not a bad rod for the price. Theyd have something in the shimano range too if your not looking to spend more on a rod than you did on the reel
Yep I have my Smith paired with a Hyper Custom certate 4000 easily my favourite combo, always has a 5" white plastic ready to flick. Coincidently the only other rod I'd consider getting for that purpose is the Yamaga 70/3, I have another blue sniper and it's beautiful, would love to try the 70/3.
Plenty of lower lost options, but if you want the best...
Cheers for all that, what you's recon about a samurai reaction 7" 20 - 30lb ? There's a second hand one up for grabs for $250. Haven't used one myslef heard there good, the tips just seem so light on
I actually had that exact blank custom wrapped for me because I didn't like the length of the grips on the off the shelf samurai. The blank was great, had a great action but thought the butt was too short, turned out when it back from being wrapped it was a bit softer than I wanted so I bought the smith.
definitely give it a play, you might think the grip lengths are fine, I have gorilla arms.
Yeh it fine. I threw lures around the 30-60g mark all the time would easily handle more. In off the shelf form the blank is awesome, has a shed load of grunt as well.
for a mate and it turned out a treat. He fishes a 5000 and 30lb braid over it and it is a weapon. That is the 7ft 1 piece 20 to 30lb v-net samurai. We built it to suit his arm length and with k guides, sillicon tip, H/D graphite seat ect. Set himback about $400. There are some pics on here of it somewhere.

Smith KGS 68m is still the best all round rod I've used for a 4-5000 size reel.

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.
