Rod for Saltiga SA40

 Hi all,

the wife has generously brought me a Saltiga SA40 for Chrissy. I have spooled the reel with 80lb braid and will be using the reel for heavy bottom bashing and also some gummy shark fishing here in Victoria

I am seeking some advice on a rod, price range max ~$300

I have looked at the Momster Mesh and Terez so far. I am drawn to the MM but would like just a little more length in the rod, the Terez is a little too long for my liking.

Any input will be appreciated

Cheers Steve

Tcurve 200

Been my bottom/trolling setup for so long now I have destroyed the reel(10 years). Caught cobia to 50lb, a couple of 50-70kg marlin and so many other things in between. 200 still has a bit of sensitivity that I can't find in other heavy rods. Looking at retiring the sa40 now that it needs a full overhaul and not sure what to replace it with - maybe the same. Btw 80lb braid is too heavy for the reel - max drag with carbon text upgrade is still only about 10kg. Put pe 5 on it.

Fin nor

For your price bracket have a look at the fin-nor off shore rods, I have one mated to a saltiga ld40 2 speed. Pretty happy with the set up atm. Failing that go the t curve or maybe a demon blood if you can stretch your budget.

 Thanks for the input guys

Simon, I have been having 2nd thoughts about the 80lb for the past week, downsizing to PE5 will make rod selection a little easier..... I will look into the TC200.

Shonky, I already have a couple of the DB rods and they are a nice unit. Only ever seen the Fin Nor in a spin configuration.

cheers Steve

In that price range I agree

In that price range I agree the T curve 200 is a great rod. It is only rated to 50lb though so be careful if you sick with the 80.

the Fin Nor offshore rods are also very good and considering there is a special on with them going for $129 it makes them hard to pass up.
