That's a big reel. I use 80lb
That's a big reel. I use 80lb braid on mine to utilise it's size and strength. I wouldn't recommend anything less than 50lb and even then you may as well use the 4500 size Saltiga.
The Fin Nor offshore rods are quite a nice rod and on special for around $130 at the moment. That's a very good price for these rods. I'd look at the 80lb model and look at putting 65lb braid on it.

you need a PE 5 minimum rod
you need a PE 5 minimum rod to get the best out of that reel. 6500 daiwa reel is huge. as bunny said above 65lb braid would suit ...so you need to be looking at 10kg drag to effectively use the reel to the best.
best way to pic a rod is to look at matching it up with the best drag pressure for the reel and braid. IE put 10kg (for 65lb braid) in a bucket lift it with the rod and reel and select a rod with the best action for that load.
you can certainly use that reel with less drag smaller lb braid (and ofcourse will for bottom bashing etc)but wont be getting the full use out of it.

"minimum pe 5 rod ? That is a tank for bb jigging metro "...
yeah a very fair comment. cos it is a tank for metro jigging but that is a rod that will "match" a 6500....however putting a saltiga 6500 on a PE 3 rod ? pretty unbalanced combo
seriously its an awesome reel but maybe the best thing is to look at is replacing the reel. for the sale price of the second hand saltiga you could get a great metro combo and not spend a cent.
If you want to keep the saltiga ...in the for sale section are 2 second hand JM 1-3 sabre games. both $100ish ...put a new stradic 5000 ($199) should be very close to the price range.
great lighish jigging combo for metro.

They are not a sponsor of
They are not a sponsor of this site so I can't post it. I don't think I'm breaking the rules though if you pm me. You could try the sponsors to see if they'll match it.
As I said, for that price they are fantastic value.

I dont think that matters Bunny
It is an open forum and you can post the name.
The sponsor can then be asked to match
Only problem might arise when someone "bags" the sponsors on here, and I dont think thats cool as they support the site.
