Shimano spheros 8000 and 12 ft beach rod
G'day fellas, in the process of deciding a new beach combo. The trusty old penn 850ssm and penn glass rod have done there job, was wanting a lighter reel and have heard good things on the spheros 8000. Tossing up whether to get a new rod too, had a look at the shimano aero wave , penn prevail and flueger crank and all seem pretty decent. If anyone has one of these, what's your verdict. Obviously being a fair bit lighter than glass , how careful do you need to be with them? I have a 9ft rovex bario with a slammer 560 and love it for tossing lures down south for tailor and salmon, nice and light and casts a mile. Have seen some pretty good deals on the spheros, but if spending a bit more on the strafic or saragosa I will. Will mainly be used for soaking baits south and north, with the reel doubling to be used on the boat for trolling, bouncing and a bit of jigging. Any input would be appreciated. Cheers

Thanks mate, are the 12-20kg
Thanks mate, are the 12-20kg or 20-40lb 12 footers still responsive for tailor and salmon? I wasn't sure about what weight 12 foot to buy. I didn't want something too heavy.

admittedly not very sporting for the local choppers but good for the odd ray and mulla that will come along.

its 14'6" 10-15kg but im not a fan of 3 piece.
If you want a bit of extra length go the Sensor Surf 13 2pc 10-20kg what I currently use but is a lot slimmer in blank and grips then Prevail, really notice it if holding rod while soaking a bait for a long time.

Yeah that's really what I'm
Yeah that's really what I'm looking for lighter rod and reel. As long as the 10-20 kg model doesn't make tailor and salmon feel like no fight I might get that size rod. Can get spheros 10000 which seems to be 8000 just bigger spool and more drag for around $150 which is pretty decent I reckon. Love the look of saragosa though.

Spheros
Spheros 8000, didnt even need to bring out the 18000 all weekend.
landed a fair few salmon but had to work for them, only little schools coming through, and a few resident rays.

Hopefully heading down from perth to the capes next weekend for a crack at some salmon, would like to get in before it's packed for Easter. Pretty well sold on getting an 8000 spheros now, just wish I could find a 12ft rovex bario to match.
