Rotto Advice

 Hi All,

Was hoping someone might be able to help me out. I've always fished out of Rockingham & Mandurah, now I'm taking the boat over to Rotto on Wednesday for two nights. I'm ok with my fishing ground off Rocko Mandurah but not sure if it's the same deal chasing demersals off Rotto. Would it be a similar metre range I should be sounding in for Dhus around Rotto??

Thanks for the help and hopefully I can post a trip report up soon.

Cheers

Head in a NW direction out from the west end of rotto

about 5km till you find rough ground in at least 35m drift around that rough ground where it goes from 35 -45m depths (if youve got navioniocs you will see it) from there if its quiet we head slowly kinda west north west and stop and drop if we see good ground out to 70 odd mtres. You will catch Dhuies in the 35- 45 m ground but they are almost always undersize by about 1-2cm. We get baldies out in the deeper area  i mentioned 60m+ depth. From there if its real quiet go directly west till you go over direction bank and it starts to flatten out at about 110m. Last few summers we have found schools of pinkies in that long flattish area that runs north south you just gotta sound till you see fish- the bottom is quite flat and boring looking. Even when we see 1 fish we drop baits and get at least 1pinkie but look for the schools.  We continue in a northerly direction cause we fish as we slowly head home back to hillarys marina - at that point you will be at least 10 -12kms from rotto so allow for fuel, wind etc. Maybe follow the 110-120m contour south cause you said you were staying the night at rotto so you can fish your way home maybe pull a deep diver around rotto west end for a mackie or tuna before getting back to Thompson bay good luck and post some fish up if you get em.

Different strokes for different folks, But I rarely fish anymore than 60m really. Can get good dhuies in the 35-50m ground, Just gotta persist. Baldies i've found the edge of the bank is quite good for.

Rotto AKA "The Rock"

Always put lure out around West End of Rotto.Spent many w/ends over there and some big fish off west/end.Good sounder is key, around the rock itself lots of bommies and holes .Watch swell ,West/end can be unforgiving (AM BEST)also watch out for fish no go Zone.Gordie ,Rocky Bay (north side) Thompson bay good for overnight but thompson bay can get easterly in morning makes boat a bit bouncy.Always follow leeds into bays and slow ahead, bommies can pop up from nowhere.Parker Point can get very strong current through there ,weather should be good, stay well away from Fish Hook bay very DANGEROUS AREA !! experience boaters only on the day.Good sandys out front of thompson bay near north/east cardinal marker and squid near also ,Enjoy !!.

Appreciate the comments. Game plan was to hit the 35-50 mark and troll a bit, then the pub.
