Runaway trailer

Was loading the boat on the trailer this morning and a turned to see a 20-24foot yacht on its trailer racing down the ramp,no car attached ,all i could do was stand and watch .Thank god it went the other way and smashed into the jetty ,the guy came down and said he had forgot to put the locking pin in mmmmmmmmmmmmmm could have been a lot worse thought it was going to tip over on the top of my boat.lucky no one was tied up on the jetty ,shit and people worried about sharks, more chance of being killed launching your boat .

glad to hear no one was in the way. something like that could be devastating . if he forgot to put the pin in where was the chain that should have been attatched as well

I thought it was illegal to

Mon, 2010-01-25 08:33

I thought it was illegal to tow without safety chains directly coupled to the tow vehicle? just a chain around the tow hitch is not acceptable, it has to be shackled to the base frame of the tow hitch or vehicle and not the section that can be removed on a Reeces hitch if the pin is pulled!

Yacht club

Mon, 2010-01-25 09:14

Would probably hooked up the trailer at the yacht club and thought its only 60 metres so don't need the chains on.

Have seen some beauties on that ramp while living there years back, probably the best was a brand new 26-28 foot glass boat.no winch wire or chains on and slid down on to the concrete. They tried for about half hour to get it back on the trailer then gave up and got a crayboat to drag it down in to the water.Did wonders for the gelcoat

idiots...... as harsh as it

Mon, 2010-01-25 10:24

idiots......

as harsh as it may be of recent times i have seen some absolute clowns at the ramps.

Was out yesterday in the peel inlet, and launched at one of the serpentine river ramps.

I got a few good looks and passing comments about launching a 26 foot boat in the river, but i atleast got in in safely and carefully.

I watched 2 other boats drop on the ramp and or forget to put the leg up and another bloke trying to lift it wile the car is in reverse and dragging the skeg....

I simply cannot understand some people.

Down at woodies I saw a guy

Mon, 2010-01-25 13:41

Down at woodies I saw a guy crab a trailer across two lanes, jackknifed. Also, only by the time they got the trailer into the water, they finally realised that they still left the gut strap on - all this on a 3.75m tinny!
