I notice the first site only had snapper sinkers to 32oz, from there you had to go to bel(l?) sinkers. I probably wouldn't risk a 48oz lead on a swivel.
I have used a few of these over the years, and what happens is the swivel gets damaged as it sticks out of the lead, just knocking around in your tacklebox. The result is that they just shear off, usually not even when in use.
I have a few of those in the smaller size where the swivel just snaps off. I am thinking of how I might be able to drill or melt a hole through them so I can still use them. I quite like the shape for casting.
Just twist some stainless Mig or Tig wire up so you have a loop for the line to stick out of the top of the can and on the cut ends bend them round in circles so they won't pull out of the lead after it solidifies
I havent been able to find moulds of this size. A friend suggested using an existing sinker to make a hollow in a bucket of wet sand. Pour the molten lead in. dill a hole for the line to go through.
Didn't you want to cast 40oz sinkers awhile back? An idea I had at the time was simply to look into casting sand? Its a mix of sharp river sand, clay and oil BUT NO MOISTURE.
Put your male mold, or plug, into the sand, and pack it down. Pull the plug out and then tip in the molten lead.
Just as an FYI a bog roll would be about 1.8kg, can't be bothered with the maths but 10cm of broom handle is probably about 40oz.

Yeah interesting they all
Yeah interesting they all seem to fail in the bag though, never brought back just the swivel loop from the depths.

I have had some snap off while I have been casting Jamie
It causes a nice overrun when you are using an overhead.

I will have another look Mick
There must be someone out there who makes them. I also wonder if you could make your own mould up with a special clay.

Drink can make good moulds for the size you are chasing.

That is interesting Alfred
How do you make the hole to put your line through? Is that done after the sinker is made?

That sounds pretty simple - and logical.

Lead is 11.35g per cubic
Lead is 11.35g per cubic centimetre. Now, as 1 cc = 1ml and a can is 375ml, 11.35g x 375ml = 4256.25g, or 4.25kg.

Jeez mate dont use wet sand
Jeez mate dont use wet sand unless you want to lose an eye or worse.
The steam generated when you pour in molten lead would be crazy. It would shoot out molten and cooling lead, sand and who knows what else.
Suddenly every ml of water in the casting sand would go from water at 1g/ml to steam at 0.0006g/ml, thats about 1600 times bigger in volume.
EDIT: HLOKK where are you? I'm having to do your posts for you.

CAREFUL - as Till said,
CAREFUL - as Till said, molten lead and moisture is bad news in any combination.
