Safety Bay and Shoalwater Thieves not fishing related but could affect those in Safety Bay/ Shoalwater area

I live on Penguin road in safety bay and Had a blue Giant brand mountain bike (with baby seat) stolen from inside our fenced front yard yesterday.  First tying I did was report it to the Police, then I placed an add on gumtree and had an immediate response from people not far away who's bike had been stolen just as brazenly whilst they were at home.

They provided a description of three dark skinned youths who stole their dad's silver and orange Giant brand mountain bike. They also identified a house that may/may not be linked to the theft. This evening while letting others in my street know there were a crew of thieves active in the area I see 4 young dark skinned blokes (one on my stolen bike and one on a silver and orange Giant) cruising down our street.

I stopped them and explained to them that two of the bikes they were riding were stolen, they made a few comments along the lines that they had been gifted them, some bikes look the same etc.. a couple of them through a few obscenities my way and took off on the two stolen bikes.

The last two (dinking) asked if I was sure the bike was mine, I said yes and explained that I used it to help take the kids to school and if it is handed back along with the other stolen bike there will be no questions asked and no repercussions. They agreed to talk to the other two and rode off in their direction. They had a discussion and then all turned around and yelled obscenities, yahoooing and squeeling and laughing /swearing/abusing me from a distance as they rode off.

I think they thought they had fooled me rather than blow a perfectly good chance to undo a wrong and return the bike to a family that uses it regularly and for all the right reasons.

I called the police this was about 5.30pm, then drove around looking for them and left my number with a few shops/pizza delivery drivers etc...

These guys were given a chance to give the bikes back no questions asked and took a very cowardly and disrespectful path out. I'll be looking around for them and talking with many members of the community to identify where they live and have the police drop by to pay a visit.

In a nutshell if you see these guys on a Blue "Giant" or silver and orange "Giant" or Silver "Avanti" please give me a call so I can follow up and direct the Police in the right direction.

Thanks
G

Bit you did the right thing reporting it to police and letting them handle it.

i mean I know they will do sweet f/all about it until you actually have these blokes in you presence again yourself, and even then you might be dreaming.

wouldnt you just love to spend 5 minutes alone with each of them to "educate" them that crime doesn't pay.

I really hope you catch these little shits and that they don't get away with it.

I suppose the worst part is that if you wanted to teach these blokes a "lesson" you would end up in more crap from the cops than the original thrives themselves.

crime does pay!

Sun, 2014-09-28 07:02

Imagine this thing happening when we all lived in villages or when our great grandfathers took off to ww1

there would have been a polite , thrashing behind the bike sheds , and justice would have been served.

All justice is I suppose is a feeling that a induvidual or group has taken responsiblty for there actions

and a penalty in line with community expentations has been payed , hence the behind the shed 'LESSON''

Nowadays most decent hardworking taxpayers and community members touched by lets say lower

end crimes seem to have no such closure , and lower end criminals feed off that power base I suppose

as witnessed by these young fellas attuitudes for a chance to redeem themselves.

Good luck gman66 , rise above it mate , you have something these blokes will never have , our support.

You should write to your local MP mate and tell of the frustrations and tell the story. This is where gov is falling down by not providing adequate law enforcement for the general public. It will get to the stage where vigillante groups are formed from this type of frustration. You did the right thing in trying to reason with these shitheads and were lucky the toads didn't attack you, that's the usual response from these rock apes. We have a similar family in our area who brazenly do the same thing, sad thing is these kids have no hope as the parents just don't care and probably encourage the thieving behaviour. I always liked the idea of boot camp style punishment, it was tried before but only half heartedly because all the social engineers and bleeding hearts got their way and had it toned down and in the end it was abandoned. We are becoming a soft cock society and these leeches are feeding off it.

had a bicycle left in my garden area partly hidden amongst plants shrubs & trees some 6 weeks,so i contacted the police on 3 separate occasions over a 3 week span & last time i said to them unless they call or pick it up then i would put it back where i had found it ,within 2 days the bicycle had gone so i presumed the the police had picked it up obviously that was not the case because they rang few days later to ask if i was still in posession and i said no! i feel the police need to accept some responsability for their in action , in short penalties do not reflect comunitys expectations ,so the brazen will continue without fear.oh! yes this was in Shoalwater!

My brother once had the stereo in his car pinched and he gave it a couple of weeks before putting the word out he was looking for a stereo for his car, low and behold, these guys who pinched his radio came to him offering him a radio they had come across for just a few bucks. My brother gave them a hiding and a couple of times after that when they walked past my brothers place, my brother would go through the motions of putting his rifles into his car and made sure they seen him doing it. Never had anymore trouble from those blokes.

What you should NOT do is

Sun, 2014-09-28 11:43

What you should NOT do is accept inaction from the police. I had a same, same but different run in with a group of these "kids" a couple of months ago. The brazen little b*stards were out for a little fun one night and thought that using the roof of one of our cars as a trampoline would be a good time.

I confronted the little pr*icks and all I got for my trouble was a mouth full of obscenities and threats to come back with a machete and "kill you, you white c***". Lovely kids.

I reported it to the cops and heard nothing. I chased them up again and despite promises of we'll get back to you heard nothing again. Chased it up again with the HO and told it was a local issue. By this time I was foaming so went to the station and got the on duty Sergeant. Long story short. It took several more calls and visits but finally ended up with two of the kids in juvie and one of the families leaving the area because of the heat.

Mind you, we could identify them and we knew where they lived so that helped. My advice, persist, persist, PERSIST with police until you get action. Don't let go. Putting in a personal visit or two at the local station and demanding action and follow up goes some way to a resolution. You shouldn't have to do it but it seems to be the only way.

We haven't had any issues now for more than 6 months so hopefully all good. If not, I'll be straight back down to the station with my police reports banging on the front desk again.

Good luck.

Update - some success

Sun, 2014-09-28 15:28

This morning while on a family outing I saw my bike and two of the group from yesterday at a bus stop (cnr Rae road and Safety Bay road).

I pulled over the car and said boys this is my bike and I am taking it, which I did.  One of them informed me he was calling his uncle right now to come and bash me.  Despite the threat, they were far meeker than yesterday's at a distance experience.  As I rode off the other two members of the group were riding towards the bus stop, coming in the other direction to myself, I said to them, this is my bike and had no response other than surprised looks.

I've made a statement to the police and also just now had a phone saying the group is now at the Shoalwater shopping centre with the other bike, rang the owner and he's on his way.

Totally agree with Cruise Control

Sun, 2014-09-28 17:22

We all hear about how over worked the local cops are, what rubbish.
If you don't push and push some more then nothing gets done all that gets done is nice crisp reports and sharp ideas on how to reduce crime.
Crime (all) is reduced by coppers being out on the streets doing a quite cruise around their local area and stopping all the youth and asking them what are they up to, take the photo of them along with name and address and keep it on file so that if some one reports a crime by young thugs you can be shown photos of some of the locals.
If the individual/group is thought to be up to no good in the area stop them and search them every time they are seen on the street. Question them extensively about were they have been and what have they been doing, in short harass the hell out of them only then will they get the message, change your ways or cop a bad life.

 Hi all,

Thanks for taking the time to post comments, it's been really good for me to read the advice provided when you get caught in a place unsure of what to do and open to making an unsafe emotional decision based on anger.

More importantly it's a feeling of being understood and knowing other reasonable family focused blokes empathise with you and relate to the situation.

Having a bike stolen is a tiny blip in life, having your nose rubbed in it makes it a bit more sour, retrieving it from the thieves with my wife and young family, a mate and his young family present and support is priceless.  Hopefully it sends a strong social message to the thieves that it's not on.

The message will be backed up by the law as I'm following this through.  I now know where these people live and by the look of the yard they have more than just my gear there.  I don't blame the police as they are dealing with a huge amount of domestic violence issues, however if we need more resources then I'll add to the argument through the press and via local members of Parliment.  I'll get my baby seat back and I'll get the other blokes bike as well.

thanks again.

Same group also Shoalwater......

Tue, 2014-09-30 17:05

Had more than likely the same group pinch my neighbours bike while I was out front of my place, and the neighbour was out.

Another neighbour observed my chasing them down the street while they yelled abuse, and jumped in his car and followed them. They split up, and he could only follow one guy, from a distance (didn't know he was followed)

Later he lost the filthy scum, so returned home to find my neighbour home.
They both then went out for another look for him, and found him on the bike.

Pulled up beside him with a screech of tyres, demanded he get off the bike, which he did.

Loaded the bike in the van, and came back home.

Can't remember the exact address, but was somewhere behind the little shopping area opposite Bent St ramp.

Hope they get caned hard, they deserve it, and might stop them going on to commit far worse/violent crimes down the track.

PS how ironic that their favourite insult is "WHITE ****"??!!
