Salmon Rod Suggestions
Submitted by deig on Wed, 2016-03-23 20:11
Looking for advice. Looking for a good salmon rod for flicking lures from the beach. Also don't want it super long so I can use it on the boat as well. Will be matched up with a 6000HG Stella. Got a fairly good budget so any suggestion would be great. Thanks

I use a 2-5kg 7ft rod with a 2500ci4 stradic off the beach. Anything from that upwards will do the job for salmon.

Hey mate, the Penn Prevail
Hey mate, the Penn Prevail in 10 foot is a decent rod and for a few more dollars the Daiwa Seajigger is an awesome rod, nice and light with a long butt for belting lures out a long way without too much fuss.

What size lure as makes big
What size lure as makes big difference? If you want to use in boat then max length will be about 2.4m/8ft maybe up to 9ft if you have room in boat. Not many rods this length can flick out lures over 30gm though so that'll restrict you. I use 40gm metals so that limits my choices. If lures under 40gm then you have a huge selection and depends on your budget as to how super duper rod you get.

9ft 6-10kg line class FWA
9ft 6-10kg line class FWA Extreme. Runs at about $200. Cast weight 30-70 grams but no problem casting 15 grams up to 90 grams. I run a 5000 spheros on mine & but it would match up with a 6000 stella beautifully. I outcast pretty much everyone else by a long way (55 gram twisty 114m measured with a cross wind) but it's still a nice light rod that you can cast all day without the sore muscles.

Assassin Amia
Check out the Assassin Amia rods, awesome lure chuckers ranging from 240-280 depending where you shop. They come in 7ft, 8ft, 9ft and 11ft and 2 and 3 piece depending on your needs. Next level up is their Sierra range. Getaway Outdoors Balcatta, Tackle HQ and Castaway Malaga have them nor, not sure who has them sor. My fave lure rods!

Gonna +1 the Penn Prevails here. Great looking and feeling rod. The 10ft model would match up your Stella perfectly. Not sure about in the boat though, you might want to consider seperate rods if you can afford it, anything above 7ft is gonna be a hassle in the boat, and anything below 9ft is gonna be less than ideal for the surf.
