any one heard of any being caught around dunsborough?

Good haul but even better work on keeping count of the fish!   Good fun when its like that. What did you throw at them?

I was in Walpole a week ago and we landed a few. had about 4 schools swim past! we were

fishing in deep water though. Got a mate who lives in Dunsborough and he's

caught a few but nothing like last year. This time last year we were catching 20 fish a session.

saw some salmon just south of bunbury on sunday, very small schools moving very fast in very close.wouldnt take a lure or bait. only small fish of around a kilo.

Saw a solo salmon swimming past this morning while fish at woodman point.

Not a huge one, would say around 3ish kilo.

Definitely not a salmon trout.

Saw a heap more at Masons Bay during the weekend just gone and I was talking to a mate who surfed the main break at Margarets late last week and he saw quite a few out there also. I'm going for a squizz tomorrow.

i hope i can find a rock to fish on down dunsborough in a few weeks time!

of finding a rock, I have serious doubts there will be any salmon so there should be plenty of spare rocks. Havn't been any spotted on the capes beaches by many locals in the know.

Spare seats at the pub on the other hand...

Sunday times fishing column reported bugger all salmon west of Cape Lleuwin so you will be in for a long wait 

No salmon for me at the usual spots between the capes so made the call to hit up a spot a little further away that has held early season salmon. Saw a school , picked my rod up got tangled and lost sight of the 40 or so fish. Buggar, got a little shark and some tailor anyway.

spent the weekend in albany and pulled in a few nice size salmon one measured in on the brag mat at 93cm we started at muttonbird island but only got a few tailor and juvinile salmon so the second bay we moved on to a beach 50km from albaqny called cheyne beach were all the action started we between 3 of us we had 6 in about half an hour but then they died of and the next school wasnt seen until the next morning we got a few then but the salmon  are definatly gonnabe dificult to find this year a place like that soo far down usualy see masive schools run through all day long we were getting patches of about 12 strong at best the word going around was try salmon holes but we didnt get the chance to make it there how ever any one fishing the rocks down there should do so with extreme caution as you all might know there was tradgicaly a death of there over the week end no one likes to hear about that stuff especialy to a fellow fisher 

all I can say is if there not on the move and on there way up the cape after this cold front the Salmon gear is going back in the shed.

headed back in the other day and massive bait balls, I mean massive was like the discovery channel, huge balls of pilchards , we actually hooked one on lure, (foul) and huge balls of herring, deckie hooked to something solid, maybe tuna, ripped line like there was no tomorrow but spat it just as quick, I saw clint out there, thnk he may have hooked up,

 im heading down windy in the next week or so - ill let you guys know how it goes..

There's a good report on Hotbite of some guys getting onto them.  Some nice sizes in there too.

too excited lads, very few reports of any Salmon at all. I'm predicting that they will hang off the coast in the cold current before they'll come in close.

 Dads mate caught a nice 5kg fish alot closer to home then any other reports ive read. Lets just say it was caught between medge and egg farms

 We've all read the reports that theyre getting closer and closer, but in very small numbers. We want huuuge schools, those are the best sessions, catching a heap of salmon, trying different lures, different gear, one after an another for hours. Well thats what i want, i want to read a report of a school the size of a footy oval heading north!!

I dont mind them not being in big schools, I find it more rewarding just picking up a few non-schooled fish by surf fishing. I guess when you are casting into a big black mass it just feels easy pulling out a few fish. Sight casting for them is fun don't get me wrong, I just like hooking up when you least expect it, and land one when no one else is on. 

Planning some wicked trips down south over the next month and a half, anyone is welcome to come provided we have room and the car isn't too heavy from beer. 

for me the thrill is in the chase. Nothing better than to be legging it down the beach after a ton or 40 of Salmon with no one other than your mates. Hooting your heads off as you get smashed by good fish on the shittest lures in you bag. Love it!

Got a couple last weekend, bloody dolphins chased em too far up the beach and I lost em. Nice couple of tonne.

Starting just like any other season just a bit late again.

if it's only drips and drabs you guys can have them. Can't really be bothered driving far from my local beaches either, slack I know. Been spoilt the last few seasons.

I'll have another look around next week after I get back from Kalbarri.

Fair enough,  this was just around yallingup tho.  Its more of a hunt early season, kinda makes the first few fish a bit more rewarding.  

It is more fun when theres a non stop flow of fish tho, and it is dribs drabs at the moment so I can understand where your coming from.    

I think with the warm currents this year the Salmon schools will sit further offshore than normal until we get a really cold front to break them up and bring them in closer. Then you might see plenty of them in closer further north than normal. Just my theory.

they are around, so get down there!!

ill be down dunsborough thursday cant wait to get into some action! probly try canal rocks first then bunkers area, im excited!

anyone tried yeagarup beach for salmon latley

So did anyone get into any salmon this long wkend?

my brother inlaw went to Yeagarup over easter a group of his friends landed about 100 of them over fri sat sun so not too bad down there by the sounds

was down there over easter no salmon, lost my mate near sugerloaf bad end to a good fishing trip

Went to the Salmon Holes in Ablany to try my luck. Got 4 Salmon around the 6-7kg mark. There was a fair few caught on the day that I was there.

Now I just have to wait till they start to break the capes and head to Dunsborough and Bunbury area. Just need a temp change. I just think we need to be a bit patient and let the cooler water to come through.

Just got back from Bremer, Salmon are being caught all over the place, got some 5km offshore while trolling for bonito. Went to Fosters and saw a huge school- out of casting range, fished in one of the holes and scored quite a few.

fished yugerup over easter thursday friday saty and . caught alot fish to 7.5kg the biggest . between the 15 of us over 200 easlily wouldve been caught fish takng everything we threw at them even a double header with two poppers on same line alot of fun that was. every fish and school we seen where heading south away from the capes so i dont like our chances of a great season further north..

fished yugerup friday 29th and saty 30th  beach had turned to shit with no holes and alot of weed compared to easter . no salmon at all not even a herring hopefully they have moved north for everyone to get stuck into them..

exmouth friday the 7th of may for me so really looking forward to that.. good luck to all chasing the allusive salmon..

Couple mates were down in Albany on the weekend and caught 10 salmon in 2 hours. One was over 85cm! Am going down next weekend hoping to catch som monsters like that =D

still waiting for them to come round tims thicket way or freo.....hurry the fuk up! and where are all the bonito at? years ago we used to clean up with them around woodies an the freo moles last few years i havnt really heard of them being around?

Went fishing near Margaret River again Saturday, still none around this side of Cape Leeuwin yet, so you will be waiting a fair while at tims thicket I'd imagine. Water still 20+ degrees here.....

The salmon run (if you would call it that this year!) is long gone, it

never happened and you'll have to wait until next year to hopefully get some good numbers.
