Saltiga Dilema ?

ay fellas

recently this year purchased a new daiwa saltiga 4500h

have spoole it with pe4 / 60lb saltiga hyper sense.

now next month goint to exmouth for a 5 days and doin 3 days of charter fishing.

i was thinking of buying a new RCS 5000 spool and puting it on my 4500 as it fits as ther both the same reels the 4500 /4500h and the 5000 / 5000h

now the dilema is i have a 6500 expedition also

so just wondering Will the 5000 spool on my 4500 do the xact same job as the expedition 6500

the new saltigas have 15kg pressuer according to the books and the 6500 30kg drag.

so really wana no should i sell the 6500 as would it be dead money.

sitting there if the 5000 spool wil do the same job ??? for jigging and popperin purposes

thank you for you help

You would be better off with

You would be better off with a high gear ratio reel for popping, but if that is something you don't do all the time and can't justify the extra expense either will suffice, but I would feel a lot more confident with a 6500 in my hand opposed to a 4500 up in those neck of the woods.

wil that help in those neck of the woods or stil stay just with the 6500 ex ?

cheers

Just keep both i guess you

Just keep both i guess you have a short jigging rod and a longer casting popper rod? I just dont see the point in

wasting time chopping and changing combos when the fish are boiling up on the surface.

My missus and i were up at the Mackie islands 2 months ago (just north of Exmouth) and all she used was a Stella 5000

With 20Lb run through a Smith GTK-70JP. Didnt loose that much either.

I hope you enjoy your trip over here.

Cheers Mick

My bad, I didn't read your

My bad, I didn't read your initial post properly. I thought you only had a low geared 4500 instead of a high.

In saying that, I reckon that the 4500H will suffice but again it's dependent on that freak good fish that want's your lure more than you. If you were going to a destination that the GT's were bigger and more prevalent, a Doggie or a Stella 18K would be a must.

Who are you chartering whilst in Exy??

all good buddy. peak sports

all good buddy. peak sports fishing its called steve.. and for 3 days fishing

see i have the 6500 mainly here in SA for jiggin and also when i come to perth for the samsons.

so liek you said dependin on the fish bein chased which on any give day would be hard to justify till were on the spot.

i could bring both reels the 4500h and the expedition. but just trying to see if its worth me bringin one reel that could cover both areas the 4500h with 60lb n then 5000 spool with 80lb

oposed to my 6500 with 90lb.

see also the charte operator runs all Saltiga 6500 expeditions also to keep that in mind

 I guess if he's supplying

I guess if he's supplying the Expeditions and you don't lose or break his, all good then.

From the reports on this forum and looking him up on the net, Peak Sports Fishing has a very good name and also good at finding quality fish.  I'm sure you'll be in for some fun.

Take your 4500 and run with

Tue, 2011-06-14 18:53

Take your 4500 and run with his gear if the need arises. There are others on here that would know more so than me exactly what you are likely to encounter at this time of year, but I would only go to the expense of a dedicated popping reel if I was going to a more well known big GT destination.

Look forward to a report.

Mate keep the expedition as

Tue, 2011-06-14 19:30

Mate keep the expedition as it will be useful for jigging. Considering you have a 4500 H that will do well for popping only. plus you will need the bigger expedition for the times when 80lb or more is needed. I have one and don't use it much but am glad I have it when I fish rough county with big fish down below. I pull it out and get fish I woudl otherwise lose with the smaller line capacity just like your 4500H. whetehr you taek it on this trip is up to you as you can borrwo one anyway!

There is an option to sell it and get a Stella 8KSW PG - 25 kilos of drag instead of 15 for the 4500 and a little bigger to cope with larger fish. It's a little smaller than the expedition so easier on the body for jigging all day. Tough call though as you already have the expedition and it is a great reel.

Yes that is the only bad

Wed, 2011-06-15 17:36

Yes that is the only bad thing about the expedition, the drag. Otherwise it's a tank. I doubt you'll have any other issues with it.
