saltist o/h spool

just finished spooling up my new saltist 30 2speed overhead. i was able to fit 550m of 50lb easily with minimal backing. I thought i would struggle to fit the lot on but ended up falling short of a full spool.

Im wondering whether its worth stripping the spool to add more backing or would i be wasting my time. i assume would only get say 50 more metres max of mono backing, cause have to consider I still need to attach my wind-on.....

also do people tend to use the external fixation to mount the reel more securely to the seat/rod? i doubt it is necessary but i could be wrong?

personally i would say 550m

personally i would say 550m would be plenty of line for jigging/ bottom bouncing , and it would take to much time/effort to strip it all just for 50m;s

Remember that when you thumb

Remember that when you thumb on the line you will never get it perfectly even which makes not having the spool 100% full a really good thing. 550 meters is a fair amount of line too.

I find the exernal fixation

I find the exernal fixation thingy a pain in the a$$. Its right where your wrist sits when you hold the rod under your arm.

them fixation thingys are

them fixation thingys are great for stability . i dont have one on one of my reels but will be getting one. it will stop the reel mooving slightly either way and also take the pressure off of the reel seat. but 550 mtrs of line would be ample unless your planning on fishing real deep or going after the sharks from shore

Great little reel. I wouldnt bother with more backing, the high gear ratio more than compensate for the smaller spool diameter.

The external fixation thing is a rod clamp. Used for rods with ally reel seat and straight reel seats so the reel wouldnt move side to side. Most Fuji jigging trigger reel seat are fairly sturdy and strong enough that you wouldnt need to use the clamp. So just leave that out and make sure the reel seat nut is done up tight.

thanks guys, some useful opinions and info there.

have tee'd it up with a t-curve 200 jig so the reel seat should be pretty stable on it.

will be using it for trolling, bottom bashing and also jigging as it is two speed can utilise the low speed when we come over in december for some sambos.

As good as it sounds....you dont need the use low gear ratio for sambos. They do swim up and down a fair bit. It'll also be too slow as well.
