Don't know if it's any help to you but I fish out of mandurah for them.... I find anything shallower than 12m holds the smaller fish so I would be trying 12m+... Don't have to go far for a good feed & I find if you get no bites in a couple minutes just move spot until you find them. Don't anchor just drift! I use squid to catch my first one then cut him up for strip bait, works a treat! Always have a big line out the back either a floating mullie or live bait. last trip chasing whiting I had three big strikes on live baits (was using yakkas) Have a squid jig ready also as you get the occasinal squid chasing your catch to the surface... If you havnt already done so I would also invest in a scaling bag!

Sand Whiting
I go down to Dunsborough and head left (sort of South) in closer to 100 ft but not that far off shore
Always get the bag limit in a few hours
Use small prawns or cut up squid
I drift and if nothing biting I move to new location in the general area
Like the idea of having a second line out rigged for bigger fish - so will do that in future
