BCF usually sell scoops for about $12 from memory
Buy a plastic tub with a lid and attach a rope to it that you can tie around your waist to drag around with you on the water

Crabs when spooked can only
Crabs when spooked can only do 2 things. Stand and appear aggressive, or run sideways.
With the former when you see one standing, scoop from one side to the crab, ie don't try and scoop him from his back or front, but from his left or right side.
With a runner if you can scoop ahead in the direction it runs, or simply chase until it goes into the defensive stand (mostly). Then scoop as above.
Also any patches in the sand that looks dark or looks like there is a hole there scoop them, as often the crabs are buried in there.
Also treat them with respect. If you scoop a crab and it is undersize, please don't shake it out or use force to get them out. Turn the scoop upside down and they will fall out, and if not just put the scoop upside down back in the water and normally they will let go and swim away. Then you can get him next time with both claws attached.

Talk about treating crabs
Talk about treating crabs with respect. I was dropping nets off a jetty in the canning river and came across heaps of people who didn't know how to handle the crabs, saw a few who ended up stepping and kicking on undersized crabs.

Very true
It disgusts me when I see and hear people of badly handling undersize crabs and fish! Even when catching undersize fish, I would gently let it go instead of throwing it "50 metres" from the boat etc!
I have seen fishing shows where the show host threw back undersize fish at 100 kph!! Silly f@#kers!

I ceratinly will not treat them poorly...i lived in nz for 22 years ....caught plenty of snapper ...aussie salmon and kingfish.......always took enough to feed my family and released the rest with care.....I will certainly respect them if i catch one......i can tell you that !........

I will head to manduraah one day...I have already picked up some great tips from people on here....Thanks Guys

Hi Jon,From knee to chest
Hi Jon,
From knee to chest levels. I find scooping at night more productive but have had some success in the afternoons as well. A good underwater torch/light is essential if scooping at night. Remember to watch out for Stingrays, I've almost stepped on a couple over the years!
Plenty of places to scoop - The old brewery along Stirling highway or Claremont Foreshore.

Old Brewery
Take caution while scooping along the Old Brewery. Its a high traffic zone with boats and cruisers going in and out of the Narrows. Most ease off on the throttle but have seen some wankers going along there at 20+ knots
I can imagine it won't be pleasant for someone scooping along there and having to cop all the wake and waves produced by a boat going at high speed.
