Doubt that was the real story.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Yeah. Lunged to grab a dropped go pro was the story I was told.

I was fishing the area off
I was fishing the area off the riggs where the boat was found ghosting along with no one on board. was very real and sent shivers up evryone on the water their. young lad was very lucky and live to tell the tale but a huge amount of appreciation goes to the 10 odd boats that dropped everyting to help search and in particular boats black and blue for finding the boat and getting on board, inkeeper for picking up the skipper and indeep for cordinating alot of the search and running the skipper in. great result from a terrible situation and it definatly highlights the risk of fishing alone.

Doesn't matter the reason
Doesn't matter the reason for falling over, learn from his lesson and wear a jacket especially when alone. Glad it was not another tragic loss.

Well said Tom M
It's a good ending when it so easily could have been a tragedy.
I wonder what was going through his mind being in the water of exy with it's notorious shark population for 6 hours or so.

I'd also encourage all you lads to go out and buy a PLB. I wear mine religiously and it is light and doesn't get in the way

Everythings fine until all the holes line up. But he certainly did his best at making the holes line up for him. ( if the news report is totally accurate, which they usually are not)
I certainly fish alone a bit--inshore , within 2k of the coast, and generally within 10k of the ramp. I carry inflatable PFDs, not those rubbish foam block cheapies that so many boaties do to satisfy minimum requirements. i don't have a personal epirb, should get one.

reminder
A very timely reminder to us all on how quickly things can go wrong at sea. As a life long ocean person it is interesting that the last few incidents have involved very experienced operators. We are sometimes quick to criticize new or novice operator's but we should all stop and have a look at how we are going about things and can we do it more safely. I know I will be changing a couple of things aboard the grady, particularly when im solo.
Very happy that this bloke survived. Being in the water of north murion is not a place I would ever want to be.

I'm in Coral Bay
ATM and I wouldn't want to be in the water outside the reef for more than a few seconds. Was just outside the north passage a couple of days ago with my son. We had been trolling but had stopped to rig up a couple of lighter lines for inside the reef. Probably been stopped a few minutes when I look over the side and a 8/9 foot Whaler came upto the back of the boat with about half a dozen nice Cobes. He hung around while we caught 2 nice ones off him.
Lucky man, stuff that

Our culture rely too much on
Our culture rely too much on people doing the right thing and some people screaming when there's too much regulation and that it impinges on their personal freedom. What I am referring to is the fact that every person in a boat must have a pfd but the law does not make you wear it. How many people will be alive if they had worn their pfd. Don't people understand that when the pfd is actually needed it's too late!! This bloke was very lucky to be found alive. Has he learnt his lesson, doubt it as never mentioned pfd.

I think he has gained a bit of knowledge
I read some were that he has stated that he doesn't intend to go fishing out wide by himself in future.
I agree one very lucky fellow.

After watching some videos
After watching some videos on this guys facebook page im amazed this hasnt hapenned before. As someone who solo boats a lot up exy way im still shaking my head at what this guy does. If anyone wants to watch some not what to do whilst solo boating videos I suggest you look him up on FB. I allways have an epirb strapped to myself when solo boating and havnt allways in the past but will now wear my pfd as well. Its a big ocean out there. A few years back I pulled a bloke out of the water in exy . He was a dead man swimming. No one new he was out there late arvo an hour off dark and big swell. He was the luckiest guy ever and it sounds like this guy was just as lucky.

Complaisancy
A very experienced bloke that it went horribly wrong for. Complaisancy can be deadly. Just because it has never happened before doesn't mean it wont. I have been guilty of it as well with things like not logging on and having pdf stored instead of at hand or on. I cant criticize anybody but this blokes near death experience can be used as a positive for all of us to stop and check how we are going about things
