Seagulls

Hi, I just had my worst experience with these birds yesterday at Warnbro Beach.
I was using a big popper from BCF and benn casting it out...... A Seagull swoop and got tangled in line.
Long story short, got the bird out, it flew away.
Has anyone had this experience before?

Common
Not unusual to catch white crows on lures or bait, mutton birds are about 20 time worse when things are quiet down south. They really try to make life hard when you try to unhook them.

Happens often enough, is almost second nature for me now to have a quick look around before lobbing lures from the beach (looking out for seagulls). Sometimes you gotta cast more sideways/flat instead of big lob that goes high in the air

I have had a few things like that happen. Funniest was penguin island, a big turn flew into ly line and got tangled. I started to untangle in while it was sqawking. My mate was standing behind me watchin and as i was untangling it i felt an almighty whack on the head. Really hurt. I thought my mate smacked me on the head with his fishin rod but it turns out a fellow turn swooped down and planted me one on the head while i was helping its mate. It was so lucky i had a hat on otherwise it would of given me a couple stiches i recon

I also have a feel good
I also have a feel good story....
While fishin the jetty at kalbarri i noticed a turn all tangled up in fishing line walking on the shore so i ran over grabbed it and spend 30min untangling it. It was tangled up so bad. Under the wings around the legs etc and when i got to the end of the line a soft plastic lure hooked in under the wing. I carefully took it out and eleased it. Now for the freeky part. It flew off and landd on the post next to me. I then walked back to the spot on the jetty and the turn followed me even when i fished a different point of the jetty. An old timer on the jetty said that it knew i helped it and will stay with you while im fishin. He wasnt worng. It was very cool and as i left the jetty it flew off. Wierd yet goes to show nature appreciates a helping hand

Bloody mutton birds have tried steeling fish off me before! Often down at hillarys I've had them try duck-dive and grab my hooked fish. Had to fight one all the way in once as it had grabbed my hooked Tarwine and wouldn't let go! Only dropped it when I had pulled it all the way to the rock wall!

Caught an Albatros on a small
Caught an Albatros on a small pusher we were using to chase tuna with off Kalbarri. That was a handful. Eventually managed to bring him in (as gently as possible) but he was certainly pissed at us. We had to throw a windcheater over him to settle him down so we could remove the hook, which we did with very little damage and then let him go to continue his travels, slightly ruffled but a whole lot wiser !
So after a few high fives for a successful release we noticed that the windcheater was absolutely covered with little black critters. We could only assume that they were lice of some description. Yuk, had to pick myriads of these little buggers of the windcheater and then through the wash.

ive had them fly into the line and get tangled. yeah all I do is cover its head with a cloth and they calm down. Dumb Asses. Caught one the other day fishing with poppers, stupid thing dropped and grabbed the popper, one lot of trebles in its foot and the other trebles in its beak. Did I have a hard time trying to get those out!!!! Fak!!! This dood was trying to take off connected to the popper.
Now you can imagine this bird trying to fly with his beak and foot connected to the popper, looks spastic. I choon you bru. Anyway managed to disconnect it and set it free.
It turned around after it took off and checked me out!!!
Maybe to say thanks I dunno, or maybe pissed off and wanted to gaff me.

Cormorants
Had them take my live baits before and swallow them (hook and all). Stupid buggers. Nothing you can do to help them when they do, you cut the line and they swim off to die.

Have had a sea eagle thing
Have had a sea eagle thing take my whole tailor ( one fillet missing) at rous head,
me and a mate looked back at the seagulls and thought nah they won't take that big thing! (Good 50cm+ tailor)
next thing hear a noise and look back an this big white bird with talons is off with the lot!
I have also hooked quite a few seabirds on a lot of varies rigs, seagulls love flying into the line behind a lure during a cast,
The art of fishing consists of casting, winding, trolling and jigging
while freezing, sweating, swatting and swearing.
