Karri Valley resort, just fish out of the trout pond. Almost guarenteed catch!

They've got the large dam if you want a challenge though and the chalets are cozy to stay in

give it a month or so for

give it a month or so for the water to slow down a little. fresh water spots are a bit of a guarded thing but start with the rivers down there, look for access spots on maps and any bridges usually have tracks along them to fish from. Fast water use spinners and lure wise any minnoiw style works and so do soft plastics. half the fun is exploring and finding new spots down there!

Yeh freshwater fishing is

Yeh freshwater fishing is pretty limited in WA so people might be a bit more gaurded of their 'spots'. Pemberton/Warren river is probably the best place in WA for it. Alot depends on your style of fishing too- Where I go is really overgrown and practically impossible to walk the riverbank, only way to do it is with a canoe/kayak. I use lures as do most ppl i think. Spinning Celta type things are pretty good, but not for deep water. Minnows are good, and get deeper, but in very snaggy areas you can lose a few quickly (or make lots of noise trying to retrieve them from the canoe, poking around with your paddle and scaring fish). There's a thing called a Tackle Back which i've been meaning to buy... Soft Plastics are my choice. Any smallish bream style plastic works, especially anything in a marron/yabby/critter shape. Can drop them into a deep section and just jig around. Weedless rigging helps avoid snags too. Have never really tried with bait.

Oh, this is all with Redfin in mind. We've caught a couple trout over the years but to be honest, redfin get bigger, are more aggressive/willing to take a lure, more plentiful, and taste better. Get on google maps and do find some spots you reckon u can get to (some might be 4wd), get a mapbook of WA or the southwest, some have more detail than others (theres heaps of logging tracks going thru there that aren't on maps, or aren't very accurate on maps). And most of all, just get down there, drive around, get lost (a lot) and eventually you'll find some spots! Thats how we did it anyway, there's some good camping down there too if you're prepared to go exploring.

Lefroy Brook

Mon, 2013-09-16 16:28

Got a few out of the Lefroy Brook while walking it when I stayed in Pemberton a few years back.

Some thumper redfin in the Warren.

Agree with the others, spots are well guarded.

The best part is finding your own spots anyway, so good luck! :)
