Search for fisherman off Exmouth
Submitted by scottbec on Mon, 2010-01-11 22:06
saw briefly on the news and on http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2010/01/11/2790030.htm?site=news
"Authorities have launched an air and sea search for a man missing off Exmouth, 1260 kilometres north of Perth.
Work colleagues raised the alarm when the 30-year-old man failed to show up for work this morning.
His car was found at the Exmouth Marina a short time later.
Water Police have found an upturned dinghy about two kilometres off Bundegi Beach.
Dozens of State Emergency Service volunteers have joined the search for the man."
Has anyone got any news on this??? Hope all is well up there.

upturned dinghy
2 clicks offshore is not a good sign - you'd be hoping to find him clinging to it.

unfavourable weather too...
seabreeze is showing the breeze up there to be pushing up to 25kn SW which is the last thing you would want up the eastern side of the cape...

The wind has been howling
The wind has been howling for the last few days, buggered if I would go out. Im sure we will find out sooner or later, hope things are ok.
Edit: Just went down marina, and there was only 1 car there, it definately wasnt a dinghy, so Id say things are all good.

apparently
Apparently its a Kailis dinghy and rumour has it he went out at midnight, to do what in a 30 knot wind? 20 knot southerlies blowing already, I don't like their chances!

Yes it was a fellow Kailis
Yes it was a fellow Kailis employee of mine. The dingy has been found, he has not as yet. May not have been his smartest move but hey, have a bit of respect for once.

no disrespect intended
No disrespect intended Middy, was commenting more on the conditions and I guess a little confused at the midnight fishing mission considering the weather.... I do hope they find him alive, which seems like a pretty distant reality, atleast the gulf is close to flat now so it should help the searchers.

im not one for talking bad
im not one for talking bad of those that have come to harm and my thoughts are with the family however coming from a local up there the word is he was a bit drunk and drove the boat to the marina and launched it about midnight and went out solo for what reason is unknown however he was known for taking it out after a few drinks for a spin.
that night apparently it was rough as and some 30 knots, can vouch for that as its come from a pro fisherman who stayed in because of the weather.
condolences to the family and you just never know i hope he turns up
