Shark Bay accomodation & launching advice sought

Hi guys, I am thinking of taking the family up to Shark Bay at the start of December for a week. I was originally thinking of staying at Nanga however have read / heard some very average reports about the state of the place at the moment so was thinking about basing ourselves in Denham instead. This will also give us the option of heading across to DHI subject to weather or alternatively trailering the boat down to Nanga to hit the pinks.

So I have a couple of questions if those that have fished / stayed in SharkBay could help me with that would be much appreciated.

  1. Recommendation/s for a good place to rent in Denham (family of 4, parking for 21ft boat)?
  2. Can you use the ramp at Nanga if you are not staying there? If not, are there any other launch locations towards the bottom of the bay?
  3. Lastly, for those that have fished the bay at that time of the year (early Dec) what are the pinks like?

Cheers,

Scott

Try Ray White http://raywhitesharkbay.com.au/.
We use them when we go there, they have a good variety of rentals on the books to fit your needs.
We were there mid August this year and stayed in this.

Great condition inside, very clean & spacious.
Has a huge parking area at the front & room to turn around as well.
Worth a look and walking distance to the pub & shops.
Not sure about the ramp at Nanga. The managers don't realy seem that accomidating, but worth asking.
Cant help ya with the fishing around that time of year sorry.
Enjoy, we do every year.

I'll give the family house a shameless plug

Small tidy 2 Bedroom place with room for a few boats

Word of warning, it's usually windy in December so it sees less fisherman that time of the year, it's not really ideal

Nothing shameless about it Tradewind - I appreciate the plug. Looks like a nice spot looking out over the water. Even if we don't end up going due to the wind it doesn't hurt to let others know a FW member has a place to rent up there. Cheers.

We're just finished up at Bush Bay on the east side, we got a few pinkies, nothing huge but good size and plenty of blue swimmer crabs.

Nanga

The launch ramp at Nanga is on the beach and the caravan park owners dont own the beach. Anybody can launch there and leave the car/trailer in the beach carpark.

Pity the new owners have run it down because it is such a nice place. The Pinks in the bay are there all year but they do get thicker during spawning. Should be nice and warm by December so the action goes up with the temp.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback. Figured there might be the odd zephyr blowing up there at that time of the year - unfortunately we are governed as to when we go by the young blokes finishing school & uni. One of the reasons why we chose Shark Bay is because of the dermesal ban in the WC region at that time. I guess if it is blowing we can do some exploring up to Cape Peron etc to get out of the wind.

Thanks for the info on the Nanga ramp Merv - good to hear. Yes I was told yesterday by a reliable source that the new owners have now put the resort back on the market. Hopefully whoever buys it brings it back to its former state.

Also, for anyone who has a few spare coins lying about, the original Nanga owners have got the homestead and the 4 units next to the homestead on the market.

Cheers

Scott

Nanga Bay Resort & Caravan Park

The Nanga Bay Resort & Caravan Park is also for sale, would be nice to see it sell to someone who will put a bit of coin back into some maintenance and improvements to the premises, it is a magic location with a great safe beach.
Great long term investment for someone.....

I assume Ted is the original owner?

I spoke to him the other day to see if he still rented the units attached to the homestead (which they dont). He told me the homestead which they had retained was on the market, as was the resort (by the people who bought it off him).
