Shore Catch Post 6 - Fishwrecked Sponsorship Renewal, Shred Outlets and Shredder Use

Shore Catch is pleased to advise that, after the first year, it will renew sponsorship of the Fishwrecked Website.  The first 12 months have flown by, and it has certainly been an interesting journey.

As I have mentioned many times before, the support by the “Fishwrecked Community” has been outstanding for our new family owned small business.  The knowledge we have gained about what people actually want has been invaluable as we are setting up what is essentially a niche recreational product and services supply business.  Many Members have come to see us and to everyone that has assisted, your support is truly appreciated – thank you.

In relation to the shred, I don’t think there is any doubt that we have created a product that works.  The photos, stories and comments are always quality.  The comment from Cowboy on Post 5 (http://fishwrecked.com/forum/shore-catch-post-5-lot-going) yesterday sums it up.

“That Mulie Shred product is something else.... We could nearly start a thread with sounder shots and "conversions" from blokes using the shred. I was anchored up in the Sound on Sunday and my 12yo son said "Dad, the sounder is busted, we need a new one, this one's screen isn't working..." I asked why and turned around, and unfortunately, didn't get a photo at the time, but the horde of herring and skippy under the boat in 6m had coloured in the whole display. Casting 20m back with fresh squid got what we were after.... Great product, I'm amazed at the dispersal rate. Nearly a measured dose!”

I have a lot of sounder shots, but I still like this one the best as it shows the fish seeking the shred.

The R&D, equipment, premises, permits, etc was a significant investment time and resources, and quite a big risk, but all of the initial signs are positive.  We spent a lot of time learning how to make and package the products and can now produce them in wholesale volumes.  The commercial shredders you could import from the US do not “cut it” in relation to a finished product, and I do think the R&D for processing the local raw material (WA Pilchards) was the important thing.  How to use the shred is another matter and I will write a separate post about this soon, or come and see us at the shop if you are interested.

I am happy to advise that Bluewater Tackle World has placed its first order and our products will be available from the 4 Perth outlets by the end of next week.  Hal Harvey was an icon of WA recreational fishing and the community is poorer from his passing, and to stock our products in his stores is personally very rewarding.  RIP Hal.

With the existing stores (Shore Catch Wangara, Oceanside Tackle O’Connor, Compleat Angler Nedlands, Compleat Angler Rockingham, Tim’s Tackle Guildford, Bluewater Tackle World Joondalup, Bluewater Tackle World Mindarie, Bluewater Tackle World Morley and Blue Water Tackle World Myaree) we probably have all of the shops that we will stock our wholesale products in the Perth Metropolitan area.  We want to make our products accessible across the region but ensure that we only stock in different geographic locations to quality outlets.  Any feedback on the Metro regions we have “missed” is welcome, with the SW being the next market we evaluate once we “bed down” continual wholesale supply to existing customers.

The Shredder is available for Members use to process recreationally caught frozen fish frames.  It will be a free service, subject to attendance at the times that we are using the equipment, and you just have to contact us to arrange – most recreational shredding up to 20kg is done within 15 minutes.  All we can ask is that you buy some of our products to enhance your shred (buckets, oils, dry burley, or other things we make and stock) when you come in.  As mentioned previously, we will shred on a couple of Saturday mornings each month in the warmer months, and times will be advised in due course.  We will be able to cater most shredding requests during the week.  I believe there is a need for a frozen frame disposal service where a useful product can be obtained, and we are happy to offer it.

Yeah, good stuff, Mick!

Didn't know Compleat Rocko had it...that's within my range! Better still would be Tackleworld Mandurah on Gordon rd, or Tuckeys...probably the two most respected outlets in the Mandurah area. Worth looking into?

Hey Mick, I'm going to come back up there soon to get one of your berley pots/cage. With them, do you make a shaped shredded product that fits inside them?

Mulie Shred Block

Sun, 2016-08-28 20:24

Dale,

We currently make 2 sizes - 1.5kg and 5kg.  The 1.5kg block will fit into the weighted pots, as Callum notes below.

The 5kg block can be sent a couple of metres off the bottom in a weighted onion bag.  This is "extreme burley" as the mulie shred block lasts under an hour in this environment, but the feed has to be experienced to be believed.  This is my favorite by far, although the "use a little often" method is proven for shallow water.

As Milan from Big Angry Fish stated, "compared to the cost of the boat, fuel, gear, etc, why wouldn't you spend on good quality burley, it is a fraction of the total cost and is important to produce results?".

Look forward to seeing you again.

 Great work Mick, that shred

Sun, 2016-08-28 11:52

Great work Mick, that shred and your burly bombs are a life saver, saves me lots of time stuffing about dicing up mulies on a rocking boat with a sharp knife and no need for me to stuff around making my own burley.

Havnt had a chance to try your latest burley bombs out yet, but I'll let you know he results when I do

Shark Bay Squid to Rockingham

Thu, 2016-09-01 21:30

The guys at Compleat Rockingham wanted a big order of our 1kg Shark Bay Squid (100-250g whole).  Unfortunately, there is not a lot of this product left until the boats fish again so we couldn't supply in the quantities requested (we also need to keep our own retail stock up).  We could do 50kg as a final run and this will be delivered tomorrow too.  It is a nice vacuum sealed product that is a proven "catcher", and local Members are encouraged to go and have a look.  It's a once off, for the time being.
