Shore Catch Update - First Burley and Vacuum Sealed Bait
We have been working hard to get our product offering together. We have finalised the “groups” of products and services we will provide, and this is illustrated in our final draft window graphic as shown below (it is 12m x 3m fronting Buckingham Drive).
I have finally found a burley cage design that we will be happy to sell (spent a lot of time looking and was getting close to having to get something made). They come in small, medium and large, and I can make packs of Shore Catch Burley that fit each type.
I haven’t received my WA Fisheries Fish Processing Place and Fish Processor Licences yet but they should be close now. It was however time to test the 1,500kg per hour mixer/mincer and the commercial cryovac machine on the burley today. I can’t sell the product yet but need to get the method right. I will keep this batch to myself, and provide some to mates for testing, but was very happy with how it all worked.
Our bait offering has also been coming along too. We have decided to deal exclusively with WA Bait Supply for wholesale packaged baits. WA Bait has recently been acquired by the Westerberg Family, that also operate Pilchard boats out of Albany and we want to support WA regional business. Good quality Pilchards in requested size packages is a key offering from our Showroom/Warehouse and WA Bait can supply these. We have also been able to commercially source squid tentacles, peeled prawns, local octopus, 200g whole squid, bonito fillet, mullet fillet, whole herring, and will vacuum package these in various sizes as specialty baits.
The below image shows today’s test result for burley and bait packaging, but those self-caught whiting are my Pinkie lollies for next season – if there are any big ones left (sob). Not right yet but a reasonable start.
How does the afternoon of Thursday 10 December and Thursday 17 December sound for the FW Members pre-opening inspections? We will open retail to the public in January 2016. Sorry about the self-promotion but I thought Members might be interested in how it was all going.

Love that burley
Nice black colour showing there is a lot of guts and goodies in there.
I was wondering what sizes the burley was going to be put out in. I have one of those square metal cages that has the clip on the bottom with the lead weight. Is there a size pack that can slip straight in it?
Also what price range are you setting for your own burley cages?
Actually dont answer i will see you on the 10th.

Burley Pots/Buckets
I sourced emulsified liquid tuna waste that is dark in colour and that probably contributes. There was also some squid in this shred so there would be a bit of ink in there too.
Yes, I will package to fit into those types of pots. I'm not a big fan of the design as you have to secure the clip on the bottom and you can't load from the top (I did modify one to allow top loading but the plastic broke with a bit of use). I am seeking to make packages that fit into all existing pot designs so would appreciate any feedback on this.
The supplier based RRP for the selected pots range between $50 and $60. I am negotiating a deal with the supplier where I can buy them a bit cheaper in bulk to lower the retail price. They are a really good unit though (best I have seen) and when you compare them to others you can buy, they are worth more money. I'll let you know the final price after I finalise with the supplier.
Look forward to meeting you.

Or some samples
getting the bottom line final answer from a bunch of blokes that use false names and put smiley faces at the end of paragraphs is not the best place in the world to get the information you seek.

Shore Catch Burley Availability
I contacted Fisheries about my fish processing permits today. My applications have been approved however there is a statutory advertising period of 28 days, to seek objections from affected stakeholders, and the notice of intention to grant the permits will go in the newspaper on 3 December. The actual permits are therefore likely to issue on 7-8 January 2016.
So, I can't sell burley before the permits issue. As noted above, I have started testing so will accumulate Burley prior to January. I would be happy to give away some samples to FW Members at the "open afternoons" as long as I received feedback on how it performed.
If anyone would like to test some you would need to PM me your contact details and tell me that you wanted it and when you were coming in so I could allocate. It would be helpful to know what style and size of dispenser you use so I could make sure your pack fits.
I like the idea as I will get good information that will help me improve. This is open to all FW Members. Thanks.
