Shore line fish?
Submitted by fat bloke on Thu, 2011-03-17 11:40
Having walked the beach up at quinns and down at burns, i noticed a lot of fish darting about in small groups they averaged about 2/300mm in length and looked fairly plump in shape, a darkish colour to them just under the surface, any ideas to the species please? I understand it's probably hard without a photo.

Definitely Mullet - was out
Definitely Mullet - was out at the harbour wall last Friday - as the tide and wind turn they come up from the beach past the point of the harbour wall - 2 schools - one of 15 fish and the other was around 30 - 40. Damn good size mullet 300 mm and bigger - so tempted use a throw net - know it is illegal here. Where I come from that's how we catch our bait early morning before we fish - fresh mullet for mulloway - awesome bait!!!
Every day at the Beach is a Good day!

Not illegal, but there are a
Not illegal, but there are a few rules. Cant do it in inland waters, sanctuary zones and some areas closed to netting. Theres a few maps in section 3 where that is. At yanchep, its 800m North and 400m south of the accessway. Marmion marine park and a few other beaches closed, but there are still areas where you can use a throw net if you have a license.
