i work in the CBD - went into Myers at lunch time to buy an Ipad mini (yes i know the ipad mini is for girls but its for my daughter !!) - no service staff around! - i asked if someone could help (from another counter) they said i would have to wait until the staff member who looks after the apple products got back.... 10 minutes later i decided to wander over to JB hifi - had not reached the apple products in the store before someone asked if they could help - bang!
Retail is getting harder but customer service (as basic as have someone to process a sale!) should be easy - and in this day and age - responding to emails is just as important as having someone to answer the phone or deal face to face with customers

Agree on the need to respond to Email
I have had the same issues sending emails to local tackleshops and failing to get a response. Mind you, the same shops I have had no issue with when I do visit them and still rate the personal service of some of our better local tackle shops (including forum sponsors) as exceptional.
I'm also sure the local shops get inundated with requests that don't amount to much at all at the end of the day, how many are guilty of bleeding the shop for local info only to purchase the product online. I'm not sure what the request was in this case and certainly not accusing it as being frivoulous.
The JBLure thread was a beauty! And on this one I saw both sides of the argument.
It may also be as simple as an email being determined as Junk mail by a server - thats happened to me before as well, sending and receiving.

Fishwrecked PM
Never had problems from sending a PM to site sponsors on here. Actually have used a certain sponsor just because they are so good at getting back to me on here.

I never have time to reply to
I never have time to reply to emails or texts just like you didn't have time in your day. If the consumer is serious 9 times out of 10 he will ring or drop in. Takes a lot of time out of your day when somebody is playing off one business to another. Phone call is the best.
I actually fish.

Lines of communication
mate you advertise an email address as a point of contact, you honour it with a reply. That is simple etiquette? Or am I dilusional that businesses actually want business.

bloody hell
sea-kem we agree on something again I think the worst customer service is when a tradie says will be there at 11 am and turns up at 2pm or as I have had this week wife had a minor bingle in a car park , insured so ok , claim approved , run car down to the panel shop on monday , it will be ready Wednesday mate , its Saturday now told it should be done by Monday , just for a minor scrap am I missing something. that sort of stuff gets me fuming , definitely will have words with the panel shop owner on monday

Any business person should answer calls, emails, and texts. And any other avenue that you will receive bussiness. amongst all the crappy enquires you will find gold.
Even if it's late people appreciate a reply atleast. and won't start badmouthing your business.

Hey 81 macca
Isn't that called commercial competition, and before you start on me yes I know about loyalty to the guy who will give you his best on products and fishing info and I respond in an appropriate manner as appreciation for his effort.

site sponsors
just to clarify none were site sponsors
also, only one was a tackle shop
site sponsors have been very helpful, but in this instance , I was hoping to use 'my local'

Top this one
I had just got into boat fishing (migrating from an avid fly fisher).
In my ignorance I went to the BCF in my area. Spoke to the sales guy about suitable fishing tackle and he showed me one of the more expensive reels,
when I told him it was too expensive and it looks like I'll have to get on the internet and do some research, the comment was, wait for it.........
" the price is the price mate, we cater for people that are to f---ing stupid to use the internet"
gotto love customer service....

I don't know what to say , but will say this BCF have the rudest, most uninterested staff I have ever seen, use a dedicated tackle shop and you wont get pissed of

that is a typical comment from a BCF employee , rude unhelfull staff don't understand why people go there still , the only decent bloke that was working for them was Tackel rat in bunbury but think he has moved on

To say Emails dont amount to
To say Emails dont amount to sales is rubbish how many FIFO guys are there on this site that spend half their spare time out at work reserching products on line as we want to make the most of our time off at home.
I have had some good & some bad experiances regarding emails to tackle shops, its quite simple realy if i dont like the price or lack of effort to reply to me i wont be spending my cash at that shop.

compleat angler nedlands
after reading this, the guys sent me a pm to find out what problems I had and how they could help.
even though out of my way I gave them an opportunity and even though a relatively small item, they went beyond the average retailer, so they will get my business from now on.
that is service, thanks guys
