skippers choice

just curious as to what you skippers do when you take a friend or family out for a fish and they get horribly seasick.

do you make them grin and bear it or do you return to land to ease their suffering.

for us , we tell our guests that we wont be returning if you get seasick , its up to them then whether to risk it or take a seasick tablet. we offer them one as we always have them at hand as my wife is a chronic sufferer

i got to add that the only time we would come in is if my mother was on board. have always said that and the few times she has been on the boat there has been no probs after taking a tablet.'

Matt , like your attitude , they know the risks , if not sure take a tablet and if they dont , its their prob and we get free burleyLaughing

Tough Luck

Sun, 2010-02-07 23:11

Either suck it up or never be invited out again.

I had a bad run with a few of my wife's rellies and given I didn't want concrete boots, I was a softie and dropped them back onshore. before heading back out by myself.

New rules for me !!

Mon, 2010-02-08 13:28

I have now changed my rules for taking others, The question gets asked before the trip is planned if they get sea sick then I do not take them same goes for anyone who complains about the ride comfort or speed at which we travel or wind conditions they dont get asked back out....

Harsh ??? most definatly but on the occasions that I do get a chance to get out and fish I dont want to be let down by someone else..

If its a weeekend piss up to rotto then the more the merrier and anyone can come and its always an awesome time had by all with all the usual jokes bantered around, but on my fishing days I like to not have to worry about anyone else and enjoy myself...     Cheers fishfish.....

yep most times wont be

Mon, 2010-02-08 14:27

yep most times wont be comign home, unless all on board are sick except myself.

If the missus came out and got sick, that would be a different story, i would probably bring her home.

Went out on the weekend, and for some reason i felt pretty average (didnt chuck, but felt green, very rare for me to feel green) for most of the day, and if i can put up with it, so can others.

Too Bad

Mon, 2010-02-08 17:14

I get sea sick if I don't take a couple of tablets.  I've been sea sick a couple of times and it's got to be one of the worst feelings but that doesn't matter.  You don't head back unless you're all sick.  Nothing wrong with a bit of fresh burley anyway!

For me

Mon, 2010-02-08 19:34

I get green when I have to look down and tie knots etc. Otherwise I am fine and I have no problems once I get one out of the system

I have been told I am a very quiet and considerate vomiter though - not sure if thats a compliment or not, but I'll take it.....

Mon, 2010-02-08 19:41

I've taken a few 'first timers' out before... not good. So ended up returning to the ramp. My bro is a sufferer & I've been crook once before so appreciate how sh!t they feel... wouldn't want them to suffer so happy to return into port.

Just get them to stock up on grog and food!!

Mon, 2010-02-08 21:12

Before you head out and when they go green, tell them to htfu!!!

Oh and when you catch something, make sure you put the fish in thier face, jumping around. Gets them moving instead of laying in the way all the time...

Ive never been sea sick.. But recently, i go a bit green round the edges. Just look at the horizon and put it out of my mind.

Fri, 2010-02-12 14:35

well as a skipper that gets mighty sea sick and sticks it out for his crew...lol..I saw tuffen-up-princess lol.
But if they really green and dead on the boat, I'll come in early.
Also always try and get them to fish a little and take something, even Avomine after you got sick helps ( I always have a spare packet on board for me and other burly-monsters, with ginger and apples. I had a mate hurl his guts for two hours, then hook a nice fish and forget totally about his guts while he went on to have a good fish for the last hour or so,....lol
