Slimy Mackeral

I'm planning on taking the grand daughter (5 years old) on her first fishing trip this coming Wednesday. My thoughts are that I want this to be a most enjoyable time and catch some fish so she will have an interesting time.
So I'm going to try for slimy mackerel as they are quite good fun to catch.
What I'm asking can anyone tell me if there are slimy mackerel at Palm Beach jetty, Kwinana jetty the Ammo jetty or e shed.
Any info would be much appreciated.

Bait

Remember to keep some for bait, they are my favorite pinkie bait, cut into chunks and a single hook embedded and just left it drift down unweighted.

Cheers

Most people can't tell the difference between scalies and slimies.. so don't be too disappointed if you go down to woodies and there are no slimies.

best bait for slimey mackerel is cuting up the first slimey you catch, havent tried to catch them in years but the metro area isnt consistent i used to catch bucket loads in the freo harbour, also north mole and also in cockburn sound near the shipping channel, basic rig was a size 8 limerick hook tied to a 10 lb hand line, just sprinkling burley every now and then and if if you want to catch them at northmole or the like basic hering rig using a berley cage with a piece of slimey mackeral or mulie to catch the first slimey, then cut up the4 slimey mackeral and you will catch a few on the same piece of slimey mackeral, basicacally catch a slimey first to get all the slimey mackerals you want,im hoping to get around to catching some slimeys for bait soon

Ammo Jetty

Sat, 2013-10-05 22:36

Just wanted to add to this - I've been hitting the Ammo Jetty up a lot, just chasing bait. The slimey macks are definitely there, in among the scalies which are plentiful. Most people are using sabikis and catching scalies with a few yellowtail too. They will swarm on your burley.

I've been getting into the blues by flicking out an unweighted small bait and just letting it drift back in towards the jetty. A little burley here and there, but not too much required. Will probably end up with just as many scalies and yellowtail, but the blues don't seem too interested in the sabiki jigs.
