Slowish day at Rotto

Headed out to Rotto from Hillary's just on sunrise, greeted with light winds but a very sloppy ocean. Ended up anchoring and burleying at a spot we ave done well in the past in 32m but got nothing but undersized pinks. Drifted around few spots for nothing and as the ocean glassed off i wanted to head towards the back of rotto but onl putting 40l of fuel i was a little hesitant, pulled into rotto refuelled and off we went. Found some good ground and the baits went down, first drop 52cm dhuie, then my gf got one a little smaller so we just drifted that lump for the rest of the arvo.

As we were getting dhuies i thought id send down a placcy and sure enough got my first size dhuie at 55cm. Kept him for a feed, as my partner was taking my photo she put her rod in the rod holder...hers went off and resulted in quite a decent blackass. I lost another dhuie on placcy which felt big but didnt take it too well..bummer.

Still a happy camper for my dhuie on plastic, nothing special but a pb. A big thanks to all that have given me tips etc on demersal jigging, you know who you guys are:)

Sha

Ahh my motto is that if you can't fish well, fish often. You're bound to get a wins through the law of averages plus you avoid a lot of housework.

Where was the call or message? We were out there all day today. We got a good size dhu on a jig first drop and a 4-5 kg pinki before we went out to the wrecks. Plenty of fish out there on the light gear, ambers, sambos and skippy.

Good work guys u did better

Mon, 2010-10-04 08:31

Good work guys u did better than us we were just south of rotto where we've been doing well lately but yesterday they didn't seem too hungry got a few undersized duhies and a sambo on plastic and the better half got a shark on bait apart from that very average day for us was a beautifull day out there though. What depth did u get the duhie on plastic if u don't mind me asking the drift was that slow I'm pretty sure we could of fished 1.5 ounce jig heads out in the 90s. Well done again

hey biggerfish, yeah i guess

Mon, 2010-10-04 12:09

hey biggerfish, yeah i guess we did okay...we were out there from 5am-4.30pm so we wanted to get atleast a feed. i found the ground in 45-50m of water using a 1ounce jighead. I found it to be a weird drift where we were. Sometimes it would take us and other be sitting in the same spot not needing the drift anchor, must of been some underwater current.

Mon, 2010-10-04 20:51

Yeah I noticed the drift was weird the gps said we weren't drifting but the jig wasn't staying in the strike zone we did try out the back of rotto found saw the current line on top of the water found some sambos there but when I put the drift anchor out the drift anchor was out to the north so presumed we were drifting south but when I pulled the drift anchor in and tryed to go back over the sambos I had to travel south to get back to them if that makes scence next drift I didnt put drift anchor out and we drifted south obviously the current was grabbing the drift anchor and pulling us along first time that's happened but we were in the current line.
