was good but slow and not much room, id recomend an old hj75 ute on lpg, with the 3f motor, economical as mate on gas and unreal of road sits comftably at 105km an hour and u can chuck ya fish bait and rods in the tray good with afiber glass oor canvas canopy to sleep in. can gget a good one 4 under bout $6000 but check 4 rust

its good to have a bit grunt underya foot wen buying a 4wd but not so much engine that it costs ya a fortune ta go fishing. 4bies like hiluxes and susukis are good on fuel and cheap but fully loaded 4 a fishin trip are a bit gutless and might overheat id be looking 4 a 6 cylindar at least and one converrted to gas, with the option of petrol. dont forget wenever ya drinking dont get in the car cos its not worth it man. i rolled my commadore on wanneroo road doing over a hundred after a couple at work ya might think ya right ta drive till ya upside down in the scrub, i was pretty lucky tho few bruises and a bit of a scare and noo other cars around at the time.

I used to have a suzuki serria. Dropped a 1.6 vitara motor in it and it was far from slow. Great little 4wd with little to no maitanence. Sure was great doing 80 kph on the beach going past nissan's and cruisers bogged to the axles. Funny as hell

Yeh I'm cruiser fan as well. Can't tow in the suzi's and not very comfortable at all. Just used to be funny seeing all those flash cars letting there tyres down and digging sand out and we would fly past in a crap car

theirs some nice suzis getin about with suspension mods and wat not. i like flying past on me bike got a 250 with a barker pipe bit easier down the beach than a 4bie great fun. just a cheap yamaguchi oor somthing i think, ccost $1800

a good run up the beacch at moore river on the bike good reconacense mission, but ya gotta watch out 4 rocks in the sand. and nannas out on morning strolls.

hard as nails, cheap as chips, super simple to fix (which is hardly ever necessary), go near on anywhere coz they light as. i bought a $3k one, had a ball down south on tracks heaps and towed a 13' tinny to exmouth with it. sold it 3 years later for the same coin. they aren't fast or super comfy but on your P's you're doing everyone a favour by sitting a few ks below the limit anyway - more chance of being around in 5 years time when you got the coin to buy a cruiser (which are definitely the schizz nit - especially with the extra punch/economy of petrol/gas)
so thinks i anyway.

a mate of mines brother has a feroza and he managed a turbo into. it tows his 13ft tinnie easily.

but i guess its not the same for every car.

try a pjero IO they are a great 4x4, 4 cylinder ,they are a  baby pajero not bad on fuel and have a good towing capasity ,towed a 14ft tinny everywhere i owed one for about 6years had 50000 when i bought her and traded her at 284000 ,had no trouble with her at all never broke down not many about but have a look.

either way you go i would join the R A C and get them to check out any car you are seriously looking at or if you know a good mechanic get them to look at it , small 4x4s tend to get hammered (not saying all) and get thrashed if they are going off road as they have the smaller motor in them

with the R A C i think it is worth while to be a member as no matter how good the car might be , there is always a chance of breakdown (nothing worse)out from nowhere

all those little 4wd mentioned are all good offroad .a big one for me is the safty star rating mate.serious the difference in a 3 and 4 star rated car in a crash doing 60 oddkms is amazing and can make the difference from walking from an acciedent and being wheeled away in an ambo or worse!!!.ask someone like the RAC for the imfo .

Kia Sportage - must be a manual. I took the wife's to Pardoo Station 3 years running and it out performed the mate's cruiser in the soft stuff. Good ground clearance, real 4wd transfer case and easily tows a 12 or 13 foot tinny. It was comfortable enough we put 4 guys with bait, esky tackle etc in it and used it every day for beach fishing as it was far more comfortable. Cruised into place like Port Condon, Tichelaar Creek with no problems. Should never have sold it. One downside is the bloody annoying bong bong bell if you don't put your seat belt on. you can pick up a 98 model for under 7k with less than 100,000 k's on it.

i have owned 3 4x4's so far and im still on my p's my first was a short wheel base import landcruiser 3.5 litre turbo diesel. heaps of power low down grunt you could sit on 110 k/ph compfartbly, we towed a trailer up to kalbarri with it and it did'nt miss a beat and cruised along the beaches with the trailer.... i regret selling this ....

then i bought a suzuki sierra widetrack 1.3litre hardtop..
very economical would go on any beach but overheated easy,
i put huge wheels on this wich made it really struggle on the beach after the modifacation. the only problem i had with it was a blow cluth witch was my own stupid fault doing
stupid stuff at wedge, and engine problems the sierra isnt built for hard core 4x4ing or towing ect.
if you load them up with heaps of gear i found they struggle on the beach but if there empty just you and no gear you will go anywere...
p.s i wouldnt want to see what is left if u crashed a sierra

now i have a 60 series landcruiser with a 3F petrol motor on gas, this works well for me cheap on fuel but good power
and has heaps of room for all the fishing and camping gear.
they are reliable you can pick them up for under 5 grand,
and maybe if u want to spend a bit more you can get a gxl with all the fancy bits...
they have good power for towing and parts are redily avalible wich is good if u want to travel away from perth..
and if you put bigger tyres on ect they still have enough power there to push them...
