small dinghy

hi everyone i have found a small 8-9 foot dinghy fiberglass dinghy which me and my brother are ver eager to buy it.
its looks srtong and all and is new for a okay price
but my question is the motor
the guy says it can handle a 6hp max so i will probably go for a 4 or 5 hp engine-it will be a 2stroke
heres the prob, motors in this range have internal fuel tanks and i want to do trips of a couple kms up dams and lakes and beaches, and dont know how long a 2.5-3 liter tank will last

Also alot of dams are electric only
As a few other fishwrecked members pointed out to me recently.
You might be able to get one off ebay for less than 200$ for a boat that size, all you need is batteries.
Might get you on the water while looking for a decent donk.

thanks everyone but
does anyone know how long or far the 2.5 or 3 ltre tank would go for because in a small boat itll be more comfortable with no external fuel tank

why not?
a small 10 - 12L tank won't take up bugger all room and it'll sit against the transom anyway where you normally dont put anything?
That'll last ages on a small motor. Just dont expect to get anywhere in a hurry.
But I think you'll find an 8' boat quite cramped, even for 2. I have a 12' dinghy and with 2 its "comfortable".

Oars!!
try taking out some oars for the long ,romantic trip home , otherwise maybe consider the half size jery cans 10 or 5 litres for back up

syphon tube
hi there,
a couple of years ago at the boating show there was a guy that was selling a clear tube that had an attachment on the end which had a ball bearing on the inside of it (sort of like a one way valve) and when you shook the tube up and down it syphened the liquid without you having to suck on it. Perhaps a 10lt jerry can and a tube may be a good idea and then you can syphen it straight from there into your motors tank?

just
bring a 5 or 10L jerry can with you when you go on extended trips and it should be fine
