Smelly Fillets
Got in from fishing on Friday and had a flat battery in my ute - Unusal but ok I had the fridge running ( dual bat not connected at moment ) but doesn't usually flatten battery over a few hours.
Beers weren't cold like they should have been.... Weird...
As it was a last minute dash I didn't take the kitchen sink and left my jumper leads at home so eventually got jump started...
Got the fish filleted and off to camp we went...
Battery seemed fine, left fridge running until I hopped in the swag as wanted fish cold ( dont need fridge running at night once its cold where we were )....
Woke up in the morning and fridge still wasn't cold...
Another mate was with us by now so I left fridge going while we went for a surf and got in and the fucker still was not cold!!
Rightyo on the way home I bought a bag of ice and turned the fridge off.
Got home and the bags of fillets had a slight smell about them, cooked up a feed before the missus smelt them and tested on the kids...
Kids still mostly alive this morning...
I wouldn't have thought after about 16hrs of the fillets being coldish without being cold cold they'd already pong...
I'm usually very anal about fish getting on ice and staying cold cold until dealt with so this is a bit of an experiment as I'm not going to waste the fish...
Many of you guys eaten fillets you are a bit scetchy about ?
By the way, the anderson plug was not plugged in properly ( thought i might have fucked my fridge using it to do some corned beef a while back but seems like the anderson plug has come out enough i assume it wasn't getting enough current to run properly )
I'll test it later once cyclone tracey has blown over..

Takes a lot more than that
Takes a lot more than that to make it unsafe imo
just got to see how they treat fish in 3rd world countries
I hate wasting fish out of principle
have eaten fish after 18 months in freezer
if in doubt cook it longer and thoroughly
they literally eat rotten fish that smells so bad in Scandinavia that people throw up upon smelling it.
google that for videos - good for a laugh and will put it into perspective

Fish?
What fish did you have in the icebox,? Some types of fish have a strong scent yet it doesn't come out as taste when cooked yet others have no scent and you get the fishy taste when cooked. Have found 8bar cod fillets to have the fishy scent yet you cannot taste it when cooked

Stinky pinky, like garfish
Stinky pinky, like garfish they can go rank pretty quick without ice. Especially if not gutted. Used to get pinkys off the rocks and fish with no ice got the pink stink. Were your fillets skinned? They get that slime on the skin. End up tasting fishy. Had an esky of big dhu run out of ice and they smelt fishy but tasted fine.

I caught a pinkie in March
I caught a pinkie in March and had about 100 beers once home and left the fillets vac packed on top of the freezer in my garage until the next morning. I cooked up a test piece and it tasted fine so cooked the rest up that night and no worries. Wouldn't do that with chicken though

The Chinese cant play
The Chinese cant play cricket, because they ate all the bats.
Which only proves you can eat anything.
But next time you catch a nice looking bat.
Cook it well.

I saw some people eating flying foxes
A few years back in Kununurra park no out break of Covid 19 and same people back there the next doing the same thing so IMO food must really be off before in becomes dangerous to health.

One smelly fillet I wouldn't
One smelly fillet I wouldn't touch was a while back. Took some frozen cryovac fillets over to my folks . The bag which they were in fell over on the back floor of the car . Thought I got them all but a couple of weeks later there was a bit of a smell in the car but couldn't find anything . 2 days later the smell became a stench . With a good investigation I found 1 pack of fillets wedged under the seat that had swelled up so much something g under the seat had punctured the pack. Would have to be the worst smell I've had to deal with. After a good clean out of the car the smell lasted about 2 weeks

Don't let that happen
You better not let that happen to the new rig or you will be as popular as all hell and you won't be allowed to borrow it again
