Bleeding
Here at Wooramel roadhouse , we have been bleeding badly. For what should have been one of the better months of the year it has been the worst by far with some days only getting enough to cover running the generators. It was that bad that Overlander shut its doors for 3 weeks and our hours cut back to 0700 to 1700 as no one coming through before and after those hours.
From next Monday it should improve slightly with travel down to the mid west being opened up but still no where near what it normally would be.

Looks like 5 weeks minimum
Looks like 5 weeks minimum before further lifting of regional boundaries. Not a given it will be lifted either. Looks like the peak season up north won’t be happening this year. Not sure how businesses will survive, I feel for them.
Bring on April

You may be ok 4 weeks after May 18?
We were expecting the regional boundaries to be lifted , in full, perhaps excepting the Kimberley. Obviously OK for those of us in the Midwest--as campsites were re-opened on May1, we should be Ok for Ningaloo.. I have a booking for a month, July. They weren't accepting payment at the time, due to uncertainty , just holding the bookings, so I'll check tomorrow. My son has a booking, too, but as he is Perth based, looks like he is SOOL for the times he has booked. I have two trips to do each way this year, moving the boat and camper, which is now trailer mounted, so I'll be seeing Carnarvonite at Wooramel a couple of times.
It certainly has hit businesses up here hard--most are getting by, just, but were relying on todays announcement to get some internal tourism. looks like it won't change much for them, if the perth people can't go north.

I'm hoping when we get to zero cases and we nearly are they will open the rest of the state if not I'll be interested to hear what the reasoning is behind it.

July
I am thinking they will open up for the July school holidays.
People will be chanting at the bit by then.
Hope the dont open the state border yet, try to promote people to holiday in their own state.
That will help out our businesses and tourist destinations, god knows they will need it by then.
Cheers & Stay safe

Travel restrictions up here
Travel restrictions up here have been a crock of shit with plenty of travel between the shires and mainly by the people they are trying to protect, agreed stricko but with 1 case in 11 days, time to get tourism going for the sake of the regions sooner than waiting another 4 weeks.

Yep Just open the state up, there is now no logical reasoning imo. As far as people are concerned around town this thing is over, no physical distancing that I can see. Shops packed, queues everywhere it's a joke. Glad I avoid all that crap.

The right decisions have been made so far by those in charge, so I'm happy to wait it out. It wouldn't take much for another spike in cases.

Agree, when the Premier lifts the ban it will be utter chaos and that has been demonstrated just opening a few shops. Lets see in a few weeks what happens with schools opening.

Vans Loaded
All the Grey Nomads have their vans loaded and are just wating for the start gun to be fired and it will be a mad rush north go get whats left of the warmer weather before it starts heating up again for summer.
We have had couple through that have managed to find an excuse to get away and some that escaped being sent home from places like the 9 mile north of Coral Bay and are now at Gladstone trying to top up with a few fish before heading further south to the colder weather.

From what I could see prior to the lock downs, it was the locals shouting, screaming, lobbying government to be locked down! Well they got what gthey ordered!

Rottnest
Im just afraid that my trip to Rotto in late September will be a no-go because they will probably keep the "quarantine station" option open for quite some time.

In reckon it will be done by then mate. Rotto is good for business and the economy. If they have low numbers popping up then they can use the hotels that they already are.

I hope so
I hope you are right. My kids (the whole family actually) absolutely love it over there.
Ive got a really sick feeling that if the WA Govt gets pressure to open the borders that we will get a second wave in July. If they dont, I reckon we will be Gold.

boys have an exmouth trip planned for the end of next month, that I originally couldn't go on, and they invited a couple fellas from Vic.
Hoping the borders stay shut as I can now go and it opens my spot back up for me! Just gotta hope the intrastate borders open by then and the state borders remian closed... like fishing gambling hoping for outcomes!

Thing is it will never be
Thing is it will never be all over unless there's a vaccine Russ. As we see in Vic there will be pocket outbreaks, but if the majority had the app then easy to contact trace. But there's a resistance to that sadly. I'll say it again there's no good reason not to open the rest of the intra state boundaries, we don't have a community spread. Just isolate the Vics and the Cocroaches.

I think we need to seriously
I think we need to seriously look at opening up the borders in a careful and controlled way. The national health advice is saying there is no need for border closures.
Tourism-related businesses are dying and I've just seen a presentation from a very respected source that indicates our property market may suffer if we don't let people in. He is saying that a lot of east-coasters are looking at WA very favourably because of how we've handled things here and also our housing affordability but they can't come for a holiday to check it out. We may not want an influx of people but we also don't like to see our biggest asset falling in value. When people have falling equity they tend to shut their wallet/purse!

Towing a boat , or a little camper, you are on a mission. I swear some of these grey nomads are in a competition to see who gets bragging rights on fuel consumption the next time they are all sitting together for sundowners.

Jumpers
Seen a heap of West Coast jumper wearing misfits coming through lately that look like they have been sleeping under bushes and in river beds, not game enough to ask too much, lots of gaps in their gobs too. Seemed strange that these people wear jumpers on days when the temp is around mid thirties.
Any one who is from the far north will know the answer

Collingwood supporters wouldn't be seen dead in Eagles jumpers, we have class!
Funny though, I asked in a sports shop for a Collingwood jumper and was told they had sold out as soon as they hit the shelves yet there was plenty of Eagles ones there so I guess they are not as popular as most fans think.

Mick Malthouse is a friend
Mick Malthouse is a friend and when he was coach I asked him to get a jumper signed for a school quiz night. I took it to him and we went around and got most of the guys to sign it there and then. He got the last few over the next couple of days and one of our Melbourne guys brought it over with him. Bottom line is it cost me $120 and we got $130 for it!
Got two $70 cricket bats signed by Gilly and got $750 each for them.
